It's simple you pay 35m you don't let that go for free you want some return and considering a Chinese club did offer 15m for him that shows he currently has that value. The facts show he has scored goals for many seasons in this league and only reason he has not been scoring is the system and poor service since Roy came in other strikers have also struggled. If Big Sam was still in charge Benteke would be scoring or assisting with goals
It was no doubt in a newspaper a Chinese club offered £15 mil for him. If that’s true then hopefully he’ll reject us. There’s been other Chinese bids for players that never materialised. The system he’s played in is A reason but other reasons are the sitters he’s missed, the ones he’s not read or been there for or just his dopey, gormless brain or non football brain is just no fvcking good. I’ve seen dozens of easy chances in the last 2 years. Loads of them. The irony of you calling me an idiot is really amusing. You’re in the top few on this website, especially in Palace talk. How long have you been saying we should extend Benteke’s contract to ‘protect our investment.’ Since you read it or during the last year or two you’ve been moaning like fvck, often on stuff that you’ve been lambasted for because all your opinions have a default of someone suffering from severe irritability. You may not think he is worth anything but believe me in todays market even with his recent goal scoring record he is still worth a lot of money. He doesnt have to have a change of heart, players get sold all the time even though they really dont want to move. So in a years time if the club decise they want him gone then he will be gone. Players generally do not want to stay at clubs where they are not wanted. (Benteke at Liverpool) It makes perfect sense to get him tied down to a new deal. Your saying get 100k off the wage bill but are letting 15-20 million walk out the door. The maths dont add up. No club is going to pay £15/20 mil. He'll be a year older, millions of falsely earned pounds richer. The wider question to ask is why is he still in the team?

Well he isn't, and Benteke doesn't score or look like scoring - can't work out why he's playing let alone being extended. Our problem is scoring goals and the main reason is our number 9 doesn't do his job. Unfortunately there is no real competition, that's one reason why we should of bought in the transfer window. He has about 60 Prem goals, Ayew about 20 and Wickham 7. None are firing so he will get the boots at the moment. Tekkers won't walk unless there is something better on the table or he loses his place in the team. There is no pressure for him to do anything, on or off the field. Because he’s usually the only one to pick from, because either Wickham is our injured or Sorloth is even worse. And that comes down to us buying a player so expensive with wages so high that all those eggs in one basket has fvcked us. Yes, hiring FDB and then Roy one year later, like Parish does because he has slightly more of a football brain than Benteke, is a reason, but so are the many many many easy chances. We’re littered with people from top to bottom in the wrong place or work position, costing the club fortunes.

Yep, no wonder he doesn’t mind trotting out as the only striker we have. It’s so farcical it’s embarrassing. Stubborn bollox from Parish. Benteke might be thick, but he’s not thick enough to not realise how desperate we become to play him as long as we’re paying him.

The team looked unfit and clueless (yet again) last weekend but I would have to blame the hierarchy as much as the players.

TBF he can head the ball, the rest I agree 100% with. His biggest problem is he is not an instinctive goal scorer. At this level shooting should be an automatic reflex. The only automatic reflex he has is that inane grimace he puts on his face after missing another sitter. I would drop him for Ayew all day long and go 4-3-3

He is at the wrong club with the wrong tactics for him. Because we play left footers on the right and right footers on the left means they have to check before crossing enabling defenders to set themselves and easily clear. Big Sam got the best out of him

The people saying we wouldn't get 15m for him are clueless and shows again how so many people in here just don't have any idea about the game. If you can give an example of a striker that has moved for £15m, that is 29 years old and has a record of 1 in 13 over the last few years, I will bow down to your superior football intelligence. The last transfer that is comparable to what your suggesting is Rondon, who scored 15 in 38 last season compared to Benteke's 1 in 19. Rondon had 9 assists compared to Benteke's 1. If you based worth purely on return, Rondon is about 7 or 8 times the return of Benteke and Rondon went for £16m. I'm not saying that's how transfer fees are calculated but it also highlights just how ridiculous it is to think any club would pay £15m for Benteke and his wages of £6m a year.

grumpy is just one of those irritable and unhappy people who disagrees with everyone no matter what. Contrarian for the sake of it. I feel sorry for him.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |
