Message to Parish - don't throw good money after bad. Cut our losses and make sure we learn from this very expensive mistake.

What other line of business can you be rewarded so well, yet all based on abject failure? There isn’t one, giving Tekkers a contract extension is something I’m struggling to get my head around.

the other thing is he is having to do much more work in other areas because that is how roy plays and the game has changed compared to back when he was at Villa. so really that video is useless in trying to prove any point. the evidence is look at his palace record and how he has played under different managers and the systems used that shows a pattern. The people saying we wouldn't get 15m for him are clueless and shows again how so many people in here just don't have any idea about the game.

If Benteke thinks he is unlikely to be able to move away for same or better money than the new contract he will sign it knowing he has a guaranteed income regardless of performance. If he thinks he can move on a free for a combined package of signing on fee and salary that is better than the new contract we offer him then he will not sign it. He would seem to be in the driving seat as we have apparently offered him a new contract so he is not facing a no deal scenario
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

The game has changed since he was at but we’d get £15 million for Benteke? Can you please explain? Clubs do not go round splashing loads of cash on strikers who’ve scored 1 goal per season for 2-3 years. Chuck in any reasonsxor excuses you like but if he’s been playing, missing chances etc,,it’s not going to happen. The most we’d get would be enough to cover the wages we’d pay him on his extended contract to continue returning nothing in the way of goals or lay offs or anything. I wish he’d be laid off. Him retiring looks like it might be the only way for Parish to end this stubborn shyte on a loser.

Correct, he is wealthier and has an easier life. Do people really think that footballers have some higher standard of professional pride than everyone else. Originally posted by EddieMac

it's not always about goals Benteke is still being called up for Belgium You come out with so much rubbish you remind me of the idiots you hear down the pub very low iq. It's simple you pay 35m you don't let that go for free you want some return and considering a Chinese club did offer 15m for him that shows he currently has that value. The facts show he has scored goals for many seasons in this league and only reason he has not been scoring is the system and poor service since Roy came in other strikers have also struggled. If Big Sam was still in charge Benteke would be scoring or assisting with goals

You are way off the mark on all your points and your argument is unfounded. Bats didn’t struggle.

Benteke could what Gareth Bale is doing and just sit out his very decent contract. He could then leave on a free transfer and earn himself another lucrative deal with the Chinese or whoever. In the short-term, renewing Benteke's contract might not cost Palace much more than he's already getting but as you say, would give the club a chance to sell him and recoup some money later. The irony is we don't want to keep him or reward him for his input! Personally, I think we've missed our chance to get him to renew ... it should have been done three months ago ... and he will end up going on a free at the end of this season. Well he isn't, and Benteke doesn't score or look like scoring - can't work out why he's playing let alone being extended. Our problem is scoring goals and the main reason is our number 9 doesn't do his job.

Edited by Henry of Peckham (24 Aug 2019 7.04am) As I understand his current contract it has a 1 year option the club can activate. I understand we have done this to prevent him leaving on a free. There also appears to be talks on a contract beyond this, as we are not party to discussions we do not know if it is improved same or worse terms. I have a feeling we may be offering lower terms but with higher incentives
