Did I make it 200 ? Anyway , as has been suggested if we were in a position to stump up the extra, and get him for a full pre-season and we didn't over a few million, that is just plain f***ing lunacy. As I stated and got slated for, we will start our campaign at home, against a team we should be beating and getting three points off of, with one fit striker. That my fellow Eagles is not f***in acceptable, for any club in it's fourth Premiership season let alone one that's just had 100 million of yank money put into it (allegedly).plus all the extra from the TV this year. Something is a foot and usually feet stink. Agreed

It's only 48 pages for those of us who've configured the site to show 50 posts per page. I am, however, fully confident that it'll reach 200 pages before long even under that configuration.

Correct; and that makes our bargaining power even weaker as clubs know there are few options out there - and we are desperate. Let a club like Liverpool pull our pants down on a high profile deal like this and the whole football world will know we are suckers ripe for the plucking. I do get the fact that sometimes extreme need should override the usual principles of prudent management. The "biting the bullet" theory given how many times that hackneyed cliché has been used on this thread. It appears a very difficult balance of 1 ensuring the club has its full compliment of playing staff to compete at this level and 2 run the tight ship that has kept us as one of the best run clubs in the country. One thing is required to achieve that: holding your nerve. In that respect I am glad it is our current management negotiating the deals and not some of the flaky posters on this site. No - not correct. Swansea had zero strikers on their books. They just managed to get in Llorente so now have one (and are about to sell one of their forwards Ayew). We are not the only club in this position. A lot of clubs are struggling to get strikers over the line. Because no one wants to let an opponent have a striker when they don't have anything else lined up. You could make a case that letting Gayle go without a replacement assured was a mistake. But even then, he hasn't gone to an opponent and it was £10m for a player who wasn't going to do anything other than warm our bench.

should 100 pages be knocked off for not having any relevance to Christian Benteke though?

I heard that the internet would break if we hit 200 pages. Seems ok so far though

One club of 20 has signed a striker. Perhaps he was more readily available than the 4/5 targets we are haggling over? The question is: would we have wanted Llorente? I genuinely don't know. Also, trust me - I am not happy going in to the 1st game with only one fit striker. My specs are not wholly rose-tinted. We could have hit e.g. the French market at the beginning of the window and bought one good striker. Not one to get your pulse racing; maybe 7/8 goals a season. However - and this appears to be the most important of all considerations for many posters on this thread - he would have joined the club for a full pre-season and been match fit from day one. Or... we hold out for the marquee signing long promised and that we all crave. As well as the £££, there would be the additional cost of a late start, the risk of putting all our eggs in poor Connor Wickham (!) and perhaps a few points dropped. The question is: which option do you prefer? Unless you are really lucky, getting someone from another league who is not in their national side and who has no PL experience is precarious. I prefer to hold out and risk taking the early hit. Man City have spent c.£100M on players. They can get the big names from day one because they have those readies to burn. We do not. We have to make choices and play a different game. My view is that we do no not have much in the way of bargaining strength. The club do not lack the ambition - just the pulling power. Given that, I agree with the majority of intelligent journalists who think we have had a very good window so far. PS just to indicate the misinformation that informs some of the odd posts on this site, the £100M US investment has been ring-fenced for the essential infrastructure spending. It is not available for players.
