Only one mention of Japan rather than two two that every other country was allowed allowed Kerm? A bad Sushi experience? Edited by TUX (23 Feb 2015 7.54pm)

I believe that the left contains a significant amount of racists. You only have to look at the anti Israeli, anti US and anti Christian posterings of many on the left. None of which are a race. Anti-US and Anti-Iseali positioning on the left are common, given the anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist stances common on the left (arguably the Left tends to be more pro-Palestine than anti-Israeli). Witht the US being the most aggressively pro-capitalist nation its hardly surprising that the left wing, has a anti-US bias - It'd be like criticising the US as racist because it had an Anti-Soviet agenda in the 1980s. Anti-Israeli is a phrase you tend to mix up with the idea of criticising occupation of Palestine and the subjucation of the rights of the Palestinian people. Christianity - Well given Marxism is an anti-religeous movement - its hardly surprising that Western Leftists aren't supporters of Christainity. You could look at the support of Christian organisations for Governments around the world that have systematically suppressed Left wing movements (most notably in South America).
Being anti capitalist isn't the same as being anti US. Many on the left dislike Americans because of the perceived cultural plus social political difference. Anti-Zionist is not anti-Israeli. Israel's latest problems have been brought on themselves by the wanton disproportionate destruction of innocents in the Gaza strip. At least don't do it in front of the world press. Take a lesson from Putin and Kosovo. Your post is a fair enough point of view, other than the first sentence. To be anti-zionist is by definition (and regardless of views about the rights and wrongs of the situation) to be against Israel's existence and thus anti-Israeli (as distinct from being anti certain Israeli government actions) .Zionism is the idea of a Jewish homeland in part of former mandate Palestine. So,to be anti-zionist is by definition to be against Israel's existence. Another misconception sometimes in some quarters (not by you) is that suggestions of anti-semitism (particularly here and elsewhere in Europe) can at times be responded to and "lessened" by suggesting the perpetrators are in fact instead anti-zionist. Though equally there's no doubt many anti-zionists are in no way anti-semitic. In this light,an interesting and salutary bit of Nick G's link from the Independent yesterday which sparked off posts about 50% of UKIP members interviewed for an opinion poll being said to hold racist or quasi racist type views was the following: "Eight per cent of Ukip voters admitted to being anti-Semitic, compared to 3 per cent of Conservatives and 3 per cent of Labour supporters. The group which admitted to being most anti-Semitic were the Liberal Democrat voters, 9 per cent of which said they held such views."

I think ukip followers should come down to this years Notting hill Carnival and see for themselves what it's like when black, white, asian etc unite. we live in a cosmopoliton country,we should all unite and not fight against one another.
And London? Well, it's a world city now and has been for a while and lost its strong 'Englishness' a long time ago. Anyone who thinks UKIP can make a jot of difference to that should, however, go and live in Barking. May I suggest that you go live in Dalston and encourage all peoples of all hues, creeds and religions to live in harmony, rather than pontificating about how people should live and think from the nice and safe overwhelmingly white community you have chosen to live in?

So according to UKIP, health tourism costs up to £2billion. Slight over estimation or downright lies to garner support? I know which I think it is.

Let's face it, UKIP will pick up a significant protest vote in May. To have any long-term presence beyond that they will need some credible and popular policies - like outlawing prawn cocktail crisps.

That would suggest that as of 2011, about 91% were not born in "new" EU countries and about 78% were not born in EU member states or, taking out Ireland (with its own historical free movement arrangement with the UK) and Cyprus (with its long-established community) about 84%.

Doesn't it just make you so weary....even the C4 link puts its own interpretation on what 'health tourism' actually is (given away by the use the words' in the sense of') In terms of the link, couple of things jumped out for me.. Health Tourism (i.e 'non-entitled' healthcare £20-100m - a huge range of £80m, how do they not know more precisely than that ? Second, £2bn is the figure for entitled 'non-residential healthcare' - a huge leap from £20-£100m to £2bn....£2bn is an astounding number. Actually the real cost of “health tourism” – in the sense of people who have travelled to the UK for the sole purpose of getting free healthcare to which they are not entitled – is actually only about £20m to £100m, according to this report from the Department of Health. That figure of £2bn refers to the total cost to the NHS from treating all the people who are not ordinarily resident in Britain, including visitors and short-term migrants, students and indeed British expats.
