you are correct. I have been accepted as English many times. Yet am steadfastly Irish. Similar to many Scots & Welsh......you do not need to be wearing a kilt or swinging a club to be a Celt. my 3 requirements to being English : a. the locals recognise you as such, b. you want to identify as such.....and c. its nice to have a bit of a DNA match too. Although, like the Dutch Val Tulleken brothers, or the French DNA of Jean Jacques Burnel, you can look the part and get away with it, very often. When you look & talk like a Nigel, people will accept you as the same.
Edited by PalazioVecchio (19 Jun 2024 1.07pm) But if you chose to identify as English no one would either know or question it. You have decided not to. Your choice. We English are a very diverse people nowadays, coming from a large number of genetic origins. Culture is what binds us. Not genetics. Just look at the England football team. Does anyone want to try to point out to Southgate that some of his best players aren't actually English because of their genecity?

Just watched thousands of Scotland fans sing their hearts out, according to our quarter French troll it amounts to nothing as they're British & anything deeper than feelings doesn't exist. Edited by Ouzo Dan (19 Jun 2024 8.03pm)

It was impressive. Scottish fans are a credit to this tournament. Sadly according to one sole person on this forum the Celt in them has been bred out of them to such a point that it's no longer relevant. Edited by Ouzo Dan (19 Jun 2024 8.30pm)

Edited by Ouzo Dan (19 Jun 2024 8.30pm) I have read posts here before that spectacularly miss the point, but this one goes top of the list. The “Celt in them” will vary person to person but plays no role about how they feel. That’s down to their upbringing and exposure to the culture. It’s acquired and not inbred. Swap a baby born to English parents with one born to Scots and they would both acquire the culture and identity of those they live with.
