Complete Rubbish, If Wilf was that good he would have joined a top club, nobody even wanted him on a free, instead of it tailing off at a very poor Turkey farm, Eze needs some other players that can pass and can read the game, unfortunately only Wharton and Munoz seems capable, if Olise returns, you will see the difference, in the four games he has a goal, an assist, a marginal offside, for another, with crap support, get a grip. You could just reply without the rudeness - I appreciate you have to dress up the s***e you're posting, but it's unnecessary. Eze has 2 assists this season from 20 appearances and who knows how many set pieces - he's averaging an assist every 750 minutes, or one every 8 or so games, as supposedly our most creative player. Bear in mind he offers next to nothing out of possession on top of that. I read he gave the ball away 20+ times last night - that's just not good enough. He's exceptionally talented, but is not remotely consistent, nearly always goes missing in big games, and does not consistently impact games anywhere close to the way Wilf used to.

Complete rubbish, on all levels, surely third foreign manager. Are we letting in too many goals after 75 minutes, only beat a poor Sheff Utd and not looking like winning again anytime soon. Not rubbish, all true.

I was contemplating this today. There were times when Wilf didn't turn up for us, got sent off or did something to the team's detriment. I think I could count them on one hand, from near 300 games for us. He really was a blessing and is central to everything we have achieved in this modern era. Eze is a wonderful footballer and a fantastic asset but not remotely comparable.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I wonder if it's a personality/motivation issue - Wilf was clearly hyper competitive, as you say to the point it sometimes spilled over, but it did mean games rarely passed him by the way they do Eze. Even a poor Wilf would impact a game in some way - get his man booked, win corners, drag us up the pitch. Ebs seems to lack a bit of the same fire in the belly that Wilf had in droves.

In lieu of further contemplation I would say this is a central difference between the two but more so an accurate pinpointing of what made Wilf so unique.

I Think yesterday showed the massive holes in our Defence. you only have to look on the cpfc squad page to see the complete lack of options - or prospects - in our defensive lineup. Glasners move to 5 at the back has only exasperated this situation.

On the issue of comparing Zaha and Eze, they are obviously poles apart in temperament. Wilf played with his heart on his sleeve, but I think some posters are forgetting that some of that petulance he often showed didn't always help our cause. All too often his sense of grievance detracted from his performance rather than motivating him to rise above it. As for Ebs, yes some of his play is a bit wayward at the moment, but he is immensely talented. His play looks so effortless as he glides past defenders, but his decision making could be a bit better. However, the same could have been said about Wilf who often lost the ball by attempting to dribble round every defender in front of him not once but twice. The fact is that in the absence of Olise, Eze is the only player we have who can conjure up something out of nothing.

His Champ coaches used to refer to him as the drunken something-or-other. He evidences a complete lack of effort, almost as if he is intoxicated; but those straps around the chest that all players wear and which measure e.g. activity, evidenced the complete opposite. He has a difference of style from Wilf, not a difference of impact.

He has a difference of style from Wilf, not a difference of impact. We were talking about Wilf's desire to win/competitiveness. I'm not sure there are many metrics to measure that. Either those chest-straps are far more advanced than I realised or you're arguing a separate point.
