He unintentionally made himself look tiny then. The exact opposite of what he should do. Watch it again and also how ridiculously off his line he was, the second before the ball was hit. Edited by XKudu (28 Dec 2023 10.02am) Edited by XKudu (28 Dec 2023 10.07am)

I thought we looked excellent last night and are well placed for a relegation scrap. Bring it on. If I was hyper critical I thought Henderson looked tiny in goal when the the penalty was taken and even if he had saved it there would have been a re-take as he was miles off his line before the ball was struck. You just can’t do that against the big teams away from home as you’ll get pinged. Ok…he didn’t save it so it wasn’t an issue but I hope the keeper coaches still look at stuff like that as well as his stature and presence in goal.

I do wonder what the VAR bloke said to the ref to convince him that he made such a blatant and “obvious “ error on an incident that he clearly saw at the time! If it was indeed a penalty and the referee is incapable of making the correct decision then in my opinion he’s not fit for purpose!!! The Ref: was from Preston so had no particular grudge against Palace. But Chris Kavanaugh on VAR is from Manchester and presided over the Palace v Chelsea match last season when he failed to send off the full back who, as last man, hand balled twice to stop Ayew’s clear run on goal. He obviously doesn’t like us!

Rob Agreed but all the small stuff collectively make a material difference over half a dozen games. It’s the good coaches who pick it up and more importantly sort it.

In the grand scheme of things - it’s worrying about what colour to repaint the handrail on the Titanic, after you have just hit the iceberg. Our problems are not to do with the goalkeepers. Also just checked - DH before last night had faced 24 penalties and saved 11. Peter Schmicheal (not a man known for being small) saved 3 out of 36. Edited by robdave2k (28 Dec 2023 11.23am)

I haven't read every post but that game was the first time Roy just looked like a tired, cold, old man on the side lines. He mainly seemed to sit there shivering, I was waiting for someone to give him a blanket. I've nothing against old people working. But let's put it this way: I don't fancy working well into my 70s. I think, for everyone's sake, Roy needs to be thanked and replaced. Not booted out in a bad manner but you never know with us.

It was clear from an early stage that Eze wasn't up to speed and was an accident waiting to happen. He kept trying to do too much when on the ball and consequently lost it more often than not. At 70 minutes I was desperately wanting him replaced by Franca but yet again Hodgson left his substitutions too late. It was so frustrating because we started the game on the front foot, but unfortunately, because we're not used to playing on the front foot we made poor choices and instead of being 1-0 up soon found ourselves 1-0 down. Anything other than a win on Saturday will be unacceptable. Brentford are the team immediately above us, are missing their two best strikers and have just been walloped by Wolves at home for a fourth successive defeat. I'm, like others, fed up with Hodgson's talk about good performances and unfortunate results. Apart from the Liverpool game where the ref seemed to view their fouls leniently and ours with a draconian mindset, we've got what we've deserved in the last half dozen games or so. Time for Roy to go IMO. Edited by doombear (28 Dec 2023 11.50am)

It was a clear and obvious error. I didn't want to lose, but Ebs took him out inside the box and the pen award was fair and square. We did not deserve to lose that one. Difficult.
