For me the journalists are not really doing their job when interviewing Roy.

So much bullsh*t flying around about this. If there is actually a 35m release clause and Chelsea actually want him then surely the way they needlessly throw money around they'd have already offered it. They spent 25m on a Brighton reserve keeper and 90m on Mudryk (Olise) is a far better player. Cough up or do one Chelsea.

Chelsea have a whole new set of management & will no doubt look to exploit rules to the max to see where lines in the sand are actually drawn (what they get away with & what they get fined for- not that the fine makes much difference for them) Also Olise', whilst he may well be flattered by all this interest in his services (& the prospect of extra money) must have some thoughts on exactly where he will be in the pecking order if he goes to a club like Chelsea where there is always the prospect of them signing another gazillion pound player in his position.- He wont get far in the France national set up if he isn't playing regularly. Also - what happens if Chelsea's season doesn't live up to expectations, they sack the manager by Christmas & then the whole cycle starts again.

Perhaps thats one of those questions that both parties agree beforehand that isnt going to be asked during the live segment, as a kind of condition of doing the interview ? Originally posted by PatrickA

I think he’d be wrong to move to a big club like Chelsea with an existing injury. He could become a stranded fish in a big pond, lose momentum and traction and disappear off the radar. Staying with Palace will allow him to recover quickly around people and a system he knows and bounce back into the limelight to a certain place in the 1st team where his value will continue to increase both nationally and internationally. He may now also be able to negotiate a revised contract, much more pay and allow Palace to insert a reasonable £60m release fee.
The beatings will stop when morale improves. |

I read the release clause may be dependent on the buyer being in the the champions league - who knows? His injury may save us - hopefully he'll recover here and leave next summer, or January, which would make more sense. Also City looking for a Mahraz replacement makes them more likely buyers than Chelsea for me - despite the family connection with Chelsea.

The irony, of course, is that both the clubs purportedly after him had him as a youngster and let him go.

Yep, that's exactly how it seems to work, especially for those journos who the club are not contractually bound to tolerate (as they are with the Sky and BT sports muppets). Funny old thing this business. On one hand, I can't believe there is a clause, simply because in today's market £35m is nothing to the big boys and I'd have thought one of them would have long ago bought Olise at that price, injured or not, just to beat the others to him. He is surely too good to not buy at £35m. The only reason I can see for not doing so is that he isn't actually available at that price. On the other hand, I tend to think there must be a clause or Roy would have said he is either not for sale, or he will cost the earth to buy (depending on what Freedman and Parish have told Roy) because (firstly) Roy speaks in a straightforward manner generally when asked a question and (secondly), he would surely squash any unwelcome distractions if he were able. It would fit in with the idea of a young man in firm control of his own career, looking to build up to the top of the game one level at a time, mindful of avoiding the trap of becoming another benchwarmer gone stale at a big club by moving there too soon. Haaland did a similar thing, rejecting big clubs firstly to sign for Salzberg when he left Molde, and then again to sign for Dortmund, always backing himself to do well enough to become a first-choice player at his new club, and to do well enough to make the next big move having established himself as too good a player to be anything other than a first-team player. Man City had all this drama about a buyout clause too, as the player wants to end up at Madrid apparently.

It would make a lot of sense for everyone if he signed for either City or Chelsea and was immediately loaned back to us for this season. He would get regular match time, keep him in the frame for France, get a dream move, and it would certainly help us. Win/win, always good.
