The problem for Gallagher is that Tuchel may like him and want him but he doesn't need him. The result is that if he tries to squeeze him into the team, it's in the wrong position and as today showed, that's not going to end well for anyone, Connor or Chelsea. All parties have a tough decision to make and something is going to have to give. Either Connor is going to stay and likely sacrifice a year or two of his career with no better than an even chance he does eventually end up in a position that suits him, or he's going to have to go and put his boyhood club behind him. The only certainty is that he's not going to get what he really wants (an attacking midfield shirt at Chelsea) anytime soon. The next ten days are decision time. With regards to Connor coming back to Palace, I sort of agree with a lot of the posters above; he had a great half-season and an average half-season. I'd take him back, but I suspect Chelsea will want more than he's really worth to us. And to some extent, we've already moved on from what we were in the first half of last season so our needs have also changed and we're not really as desperate for him as we might have been then. The one proviso for me is that I get the impression PV really loves Connor and would have him back in a pinch. If that's the case, I'd give Vieira what he wants; it's a good enough reason for me. The interesting bit over the next ten days will be if Chelsea is prepared to sell and us, Newcastle, and Everton all come in with bids, which Connor will choose. That will tell us a lot about him. I've always said that aside from Doucoure, he's been our main target over the summer and until he's ruled out, that will remain the case. I still think that.

A good deal might be if we could get him at a reasonable price, but include a generous buy-back clause for Chelsea, maybe one that lasts 24 months or so. This means Connor's not entirely given up hope of ever fulfilling his dream, and Chelsea know if he does turn out s*** hot, they've still got first refusal. He's more likely to develop with us than them. Okay, it's frustrating if we lost a class player in 2024 for a low(ish) fee, but that could be better than paying stupid money for someone who's already peaked. If Newcastle are interested, there's no point in going head to head with them. But Chelsea might prefer a more nuanced deal that still gives them a whiff of ownership than one that simply throws all the cash up front. Bare in mind they did try to sign Nathan Ake this summer, so you never know when they might see a need for a former player.

As is yours. I agree with you. I'd say £20 million is a fair price and if PV was all-in, I'd go to £25 million or just above as I have faith in the manager. But £30 million plus, it's a no from me. I think a lot will depend on Connor as if Newcastle and Everton come in (which they will), I'd imagine they'll up the fee so Connor wanting to come back to us (if he does) may be an important bargaining chip as he should have some influence, if not decisive, on where he goes.

I really dont think he is that good a player, a great engine and decent finisher but he has so much lacking in his game, he had a very good first half of the season but went off the boil in the second half, even Benteke and Puncheon had one good season for us,i wouldn't buy him. full stop.
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

He could be a player who just fits in with us better than with other clubs. Hope so because if Chelsea aren't sure it's hard to see Liverpool, Arsenal, City, etc, going for him.

Currently the Palace squad is all focused, and earning their places as starters and substitutes, as specified by PV for each match. I do not think that CG should be bought as a starter, but rather as another impact substitute. GS could also us him in this way. Loans usually have minimum game time conditions, so buying - as impact substitute, to further his career, at £7.5 to £12.5m (maximum) with buyback option - could be the way forward. Certainly, we are demonstrating that we can manage without him, and are in a strong position. COYP .

I also love CG, but with PV's current squad I am not at all unhappy that CG isn't part of it. Schlupp is actually better doing what he did against Villa though unlucky offside rule-out. Doucoure's position is what was and is needed - that is Defensive Mid not attacking mid - among other positions Schlupp is an attacking mid and a GOOD ONE. Schlupp is quick to link up the attacking play we currently do so well. Now another RLC to support Doucoure is what I would target, plus a super-winger and an out and out CF to support Zaha. 1. DM Not a CG. In fact, it's starting to look as though CG likes to be 'the star of the day' in lesser teams than top four company. I think he may be sent out again somewhere on a free.

He may not fetch the price that was being thrown around last year but he has got a lot better CV than Morgan-Gibbs so the idea that he will go for less than 30 million in this window seems fanciful. Unless Chelsea buy another first-choice midfielder, I can't see him leaving in the next ten days

If he becomes available in any way shape or form at least with us he passed his interview & his introduction / probation period & there was obviously a fair bit of chemistry between the player & the club - this means that we can bid to whatever our reasonable levels are with that confidence that we would know what we were getting & the player would know where he stood in any arrangement- If Sandcastle or Sherwood Forest or the pitch invaders from up the river Mersey come in offering bucket loads of dosh then it seems unlikely that we will match them - With only a handful of days left in this window it seems that this could be an interesting week for CG.
