The number of small boats of illegal immigrants crossing the channel has dropped to zero in the days following the Rwanda announcement, the policy is clearly working.

Rwanda nets a cool 120 millions for probably doing nothing. The first flight not expected now 'for several months'. Subject to surviving the legal challenges that is. Patel again, anything from her is either illegal or doesn't work anyway. After bad weather crossings back up why don't we welcome them we are approaching parity on migration anyway.

Yes but the people migrating are taking their money with them and spending it elsewhere in the world.

For example what are the demographics for people leaving this country, sex, age, skills, financial well being versus the same for immigrants. Are we exporting middle class skills and importing poor unskilled I suspect we are?

I see that those held in immigration centres who face deportation are going on hunger strike. Is it racist, ignorant, bigoted, reprehensible or otherwise to suggest it may be good practice for their forthcoming destination? Probably, but it’s there now! Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Presumably you are happy to allow these arrivals on the streets without any checks? Good strategy that

It's clearly hard to find consensus on this issue, on one extreme you get people wanting to sink boats, on the other, for us to be a home to everyone on the planet who says they're persecuted or is able to reach our island on their makeshift raft (which admittedly is a brave and perilous journey eclipsing that of any journey we'll likely make). The fact remains though that to be 'the destination of choice', isn't really a sustainable position at these numbers, and so something has to be done to dissuade. I don't envy those having to find workable solutions.
