Who gets the assist with pens, is it the person who is fouled OR the person who played the pass to instigate the foul? Reason I ask is, more often than not, the player who is fouled will take the pen.

According to fantasy football the player who won the pen. But if they then take the pen they don't get the assist.

Believe me, I know all the FPL rules!

But they're not credited as assists on any recognised stats pages or the official Premier League records.

Well if Wilf is the one taking it, there may not be any assist!

If anyone thinks Wilf had a poor game last night they need their head tested. He is turning into a different type of player under Viera. He knows he is not the main man anymore and it suits him. You can see that he really respects Viera and is playing for him. Under Roy he was playing for himself and a move away from Palace.

Wilf is still one of our best players and still a fantastic player.

I think the experts disagreed with you. He was rated the worst player on pitch after first half. Yes he scored 2 goals right at the death and that put his rating up. But he is not the infuence he used to be and probably never will be again.

On the question should we let go. He is still a good player but does not justify his high wages. I can not see us offering an extension at those wages. I think he will be offered an extension in next couple of months at around 80k pw. If he turns it down we will withdraw offer and allow him to run down contract with another offer on table for around £60k pw.

I am afraid the top 4 do not want or need him, No mid table team is going to pay those wages so he has a lot of thinking to do

Vieira described it as Wilf's best performance since he took over.

I don't think there's a chance in hell we would let Wilf walk for the sake of a £30k reduction in wages or something so relatively negligible.

10-goal a season wingers are hard to find and an expensive commodity.

If Wilf continues how he was against Watford, he stays all day every day....

It must have been a wake up call for him or a relief... to see MG get the arm band... he's no longer the golden boy.... he may be relieved....... the pressure is off... or he may feel he has a point to prove.

It's clear to see that palace is the right club for zaha, but it felt for a long time that he disagreed but that moment has passed... the clubs he may have wanted, didn't come calling and they won't.

I would hope he can see that the squad right now, is exciting... and instead of maybe competing with it... go with it.

Wilf can go sulking and missing during parts of a season! But when we really need him he always steps up! when we have that bad run of games not winning he usually always drags us out of it!

Just seen he is on 77 goals for palace! Would absolutely love it if he got to 100

Yep would be great. Let's hope PV's influence continues to bear positive vibes in Wilf

£30k a week is relatively negligible?? £30k a week is £1.5m per year (plus employer national insurance of c14% extra) and he will want say a 3 year contract. That's c£5m we would prefer not to pay.

Then as our highest earner it is the benchmark used by other agents to negotiate. If an agent says i want 50% of Wilf's salary that's now £65k per week, but if he was on £80k half of that that's £25k less.

So there is an add on effect. It is clearly not negligible

£1.5m per year is less than 2% of our wage bill, so absolutely it's a negligible amount.

You're over-complicating it; £5m to have Wilf for an extra 3 years is the definition of a no-brainer.

How much would a 10-goal a season winger cost to buy and what sort of salary would he request...

Absolutely right EDN. In PL terms the (crazy anywhere else) sums involved are not huge. CPFC 2010 will negotiate hard and get the best deal for the club I am sure but in the end that deal will involve retaining Wilf and it will almost certainly also be the best deal for him too.

Those criticising Zaha’s performance are comparing him now as a 29 year old playing alongside other PL quality players with the 24 year old Zaha playing in a team of much lower ability players where the last thing the coach said to the team was “Get the ball to Zaha”. It’s not surprising that he seems to be playing worse than those days - he is 4 or 5 years older so is a lot less ‘flashy’ and he is now just one member of the team.

The only area where the criticism is valid is his attitude on the pitch. He needs to be less petulant and angry - but a) that anger has motivated him to get us goals in the past and b) Patrick Vieira is coaching him through this and helping him deal with it.

You're under complicating it.

Firstly you've ignore the last part of my comment.

Secondly, Wilf is clearly in a slow decline. A 32 year old Wilf will clearly not be as good as the current 29 year old, just as he isn't quite as good as the 26 year old Wilf.

All players decline at different levels depending on age, their body, injury record etc. Look at Willian at Arse last year compared to Chelsea the year before. A ghost of his former self. Rooney was shot at about 28. However, others can play into the mid 30s without any adverse effects.

Wilf's decline has clearly already started
