So football should be included in that?

I must say that in his position, I might have kept a low profile, but he has to earn a living somehow.

Ex Teachers and Doctors have to earn a living as well, sorry that route should be closed.

Again, this is an awkward topic to talk about because if feels like you're defending sex offences because I'm most definitely not.

I'm just mentioning that this can also be a bit grey and awkward....what about professors? I mean there are long standing marriages in the US that you'd have to break up and throw the professor in jail.

And are we really saying that a Doctor can't ever marry a patient? Shouldn't there be some kind of time limit or age gap aspect to it? We want to protect the underaged not stop adults from making normal decisions in life.

So you think he should not play football because that lead directly to his alleged offence?
Or is it just that you think that being a footballer makes him more likely to commit a similar offence?

Remember that as horrible as he may be, he was found innocent by a court of law.

My uncle was a professor in the Midlands in England. He started going out with a woman (in her forties with children) who was a student. He was forced to resign. He married her.
I agreed that he should step down, however. It's not correct to start shagging the students, whoever they may be, in my opinion. Plus, it's obviously in the contract.
In my local university in Ireland, there are no such standards. With several staff shagging students. Frankly, it's messy and I've been sorely tempted to report it. However, along your point, they are consenting adults (albeit stupid) so I don't. I want to clarify, I don't blame the students at all. I can understand them, but the staff are taking the p1ss.

Why would we stop at Teacher and Doctor.

Pretty much every job has a power dynamic about it. Every boss or supervisor in every profession could be seen as exploiting any staff they had a relationship with.

In some cases that'll be true, in others not.

In 'Love Actually' the PM bangs a cleaner.

I see no issue with consensual relationships between adults.

How much control do you want institutions to have over our lives?

I think once someone is overaged is gets more complex. I agree, that, even though the age factor is covered, you can't really be sexually involved with someone who you are also marking as that's a clear conflict of interest...so at the least you move the student....sacking them....For me it depends upon the circumstances...because I wouldn't be forcing a resignation in that first case you mentioned.

Like I say, bosses marry staff all the time, I'm not really that sure how it's that different.

I agree.

I think in the urge to protect the vulnerable, which we all obviously agree with, they threw a blanket over some professions while leaving the majority free....Examples of exploitation don't stop at profession A but not profession B.....If a Doctor can't marry an adult patient why can a politician marry staff or indeed a constituent.

It's kind of unworkable. I think some of these laws are emotion led when you'd hope that some nuance and common sense was involved.

For the second time I am making a general point about convicted sex offenders or if you like a person who is on the Sex offenders list being banned from being a teacher / doctor / scout leader then why not being a footballer where they do come in contact with young people.

I don't want institutions having any control over our lives. However, this was well before all the wokeness these days and was in the contract and, obviously, guidelines. I don't agree with a blanket law, but if an institution takes you on, you sign the contract, you breach it, that's on you. In the case of teachers and students, of all levels, I agree with that.
The rest is largely unpoliceable but there will be standards required of management in most sectors.
None of us would think it fair if the best looking women got all the jobs, if you flipped this around. Although obviously nothing against good looks. I have personally never been that tempted by my students. I basically think it's wrong and overstepping the mark.

OK, I get it.

I just wonder what occupations would be acceptable, since interaction with other people of all ages is rather common.
