I know people wont want to hear this but I think the smart thing to do on this one is test Getafe's resolve. It seems Guaita has agreed to come to us at least in the summer and with 14 games to go I don't think it is worth (long term) us paying 8 mill Euros for a player we get free in a few months. So we leave as it is at the moment and let Getafe sweat on it until transfer deadline day when they may realize that accepting 4 mill euros and letting him go now will be better than losing him for nothing in the summer.

It's the gamble isn't it. Will he make enough difference to keep us up? Maybe. Or can we sign a striker who will score enough to make conceding less important? Or stiffen the defence and midfield enough to reduce goal scoring chances? Given the money accrued by premiership clubs each season now though 8 million euros is really neither here nor there in attempting to improve the odds in our favour.

To be honest I think it's exactly what we're doing anyway, and it's the best thing we can do, if we do it properly. The fact of the matter is we're either prepared to meet his buy out clause or we aren't, we've had ample time to make a decision on the finances and it would seem 8m is not within our budget for a goalkeeper. The variation in reports to me just indicates we're doing everything we can to unnerve Getafe and see who sweats first. Biggest concern I have is our negotiating position vs Getafe's. We need a goalkeeper, Roys made it clear it's a priority. Also if Getafe's epresentatives are worth their salt, they'll surely look at Parish and co's track record when it comes to negotiations of this nature & see that our resolve is usually the first to be tested. Happened with both Sakho and Benteke - Parish tried his luck but did nothing other than delay the transfers and pay full pretty much the full wack anyway. I understand some will argue that Getafe are in a more precarious position than ourselves, with the prospect of him walking out on a free at the end of the season. But I think sometimes people underestimate the pricelessness of a football club or organisations principles in the long term. All we can do is hope they bottle it and we get our man.

If he had this private contract, then Getafe are risking a messy legal case if they block this. And for what benefit? Will he really have his head right to play for them this season? Weird, though, to have one deal with the club and another with the Spanish FA and I wonder what would be the benefit of having different arrangements? Why wouldn't they say 4m euros to the Spanish FA? I get the logic of waiting. The counter pressure is that goalkeeper is a position where 5 mistakes/bad keeping could cost us 5-10 points, if we were unfortunate enough for those errors to be spread across 5 tight matches. The possibility of 5 mistakes/bad keeping in 14 remaining games is realistic from either of our keepers. What's less so is that they define the outcomes of 5 matches. Didn’t work out for him due to non footballing matters. Now wallies want to say he was sh1t with absolutely no substance.

He wasn't sh*t but let's face it...if he was good we certainly didn't see it. Had WH did what Mandanda did for Burnley's goal last season he'd have been slaughtered.

Edited by Ginger Pubic Wig (26 Jan 2018 7.03am) Believe they have already dropped him and there won't be a lengthy legal challenge, as in reality any challenge will take longer than the period left on his contract so will be a mute point. By blocking that route (If that's what Getafe want to do) then they will succeed.
