Under normal circumstances a 1-0 loss away at Newcastle would be annoying/frustrating but because we had such a dreadful start every game where we don't get something hurts more than it normally would.

People can be so dumb after a loss. Wilf was taken off because he's played little football. He was replaced by RLC who on another day would have had an assist if PVA's big toe was millimetres bigger. Yes, it's hugely frustrating but yesterday was another good performance. We're getting there.

Wilf I thought was not as effective as he was last week we had trouble in getting in behind their defence because of that. I guess Roy just felt he would be no more effective in the r3mainder of the game than when he was on the pitch.

Wilf often has a bad game because the other team shuts him down and all the while they've got at least half an eye on him they are less effective. I think it was telling that Newcastle upped their game when he came off. I'm not a Roy hater at all but I think that was his first big mistake so far. It was an almost Pardew-like substitution. Personally, with my admitted limited knowledge of management, I would have taken Cabaye off at or near HT and brought RLC on then. Cabaye was at risk of blowing his top (good on him that he didn't in the end), he was letting the crowd and the other team get to him. We may have had to change shape slightly but I think that's an ok risk to take. Having Wilf on the pitch gives the other team something to think of and ties them up.

Alright lads, agree with the people saying that had Benteke been on the pitch, you might have got something. Mind you Cabaye should have seen red with only 28 minutes gone, so had the ref not bottled it it may not have panned out the way you'd like. Zara loves a tumble, doesn't he? Don't get me wrong, we've all had players who dive or whatever, but he's not afraid to "go down easy" is he? He got increasingly frustrated that he wasn't getting much change out of Yedlin and that the ref wasn't buying his theatrics and had a wee strop as he went off. If he worked harder for the team he'd be a very good player. Too selfish imo We've become a very good defensive outfit, so a lot of teams leave thinking they deserved something from the game, because they had the lions share of possession, or had a load of shots or whatever. Trouble is the possession and shots are generally not in/from dangerous areas. Elliott didn't need to make a save and because you played 2 wingers up front youmight have launched in plenty of crosses, but there wasn't anyone there to get on the end of them. Had Benteke been playing we probably would have sacrificed our wide play even more, to stop the crosses. Think it was a below par performance from us, Ritchie, Perez and Hayden were poor. Joselu got very little joy from your centrebacks too. But this was a game that could have been trickier than it was. You on a high, bit of complacency from us, Zaha or Townsend doing something special. Nice to grind this out, fans have total faith in Rafa to guide us through games like this now. I think you'll pick up wins now that Hodgson has you better defensively than you were and when you've a fit striker you'll improve at that end of the pitch too. But it may be too little too late I'm afraid. Good luck with the rest of the season.

Never a red for Cabaye, funny that just after Yedlin was sprinting like a racehorse despite going down as if he was shot when Cabaye fouled him, yes a foul but never a red.
