I think it would be good. We don't need someone to teach thd players hiw to play, we need someone to get the best out of them. Toys man management skills seem to be good, so hopefully we'll have a squad that want to play for him. I'm more optimistic after sunday, put sakho, Zaha and RLC in that team and we'll give most teams a good game. Let's make SP rock on saturday, last time we really did that was the hull game, and look what happened. ..

I am hoping that there are parallels with Newcastle and Sir Bobby Robson. He went back there at about Hodgson's age and took them to a 3rd place finish. Roy, like Sir Bobby, is an affable local lad made good.

I also believe English teams (and England-based players) often under perform at major tournaments due to the physical intensity of the game here. So Iceland (who btw are far better than many credit) was an aberration.

Lastly, I don't see why Hodgson would take it on at 70 if he believed he was past it. He wants to recover his reputation.

I hope, either way, that he is given a lot of support from the fans, regardless of any reservations we may have.

The problem is that every year when it comes round to budgets , Pulis and Sam were not convinced there was enough there NOT to go through it again , so they decided to part with us .
Its not the way we play , its the fact that to improve we need better players
If we had better players the FDB experiment wouldn't have been such a disaster .
I don't like Simon Jordan but his analogy that it was like asking a one legged man to win the 100 meters is spot on ~ we just don't have that type of player
We have Tompkins and Dann , Not Stones and Ferdinand
We have Puncheon and Luka not Fabregas and Ozil
Gotta defend resiliently and get forward quickly , bypass midfield where possible and hope that Luka picks up the second or third ball and distribute again.
If we get Hodgson , we will be stable and more resilient
We just need points right now
As Sam said on the radio this morning , even if we went on a good run now it will be after january that we are comfortable mid table ~ and THATS why I wanted FDB sacked as soon as possible , because we are in real danger of going down .

That is a massive exaggeration. If we won Saturday by 2 goals and other results went our way we'd immediately be out the bottom 3. Then lets say we park the bus against City, United and Chelsea and get 2 points out of those three games. Hypathetical but possible. We'd then be within striking distance of 12th/13th/14th with easier games coming up. Keep a bit of consistency going and we would definitely be mid table well before Christmas comes around.
I'm not saying we haven't made it hard for ourselves. We have, of course we have but lets not overreact. We can climb the table quite quickly at this stage of the season. I'd rather lose 4 on the trot at the beginning of the season than in the run in and still needing points.
The key I agree is to get someone in who knows how to squeeze every last drop out of what we have. AND for the board to learn from their mistakes and support that manager with whatever he needs in January.

comfortable mid table only starts to exist as a concept at about 30 points and 8 to 10 clear of the dotted line. so Allardyce saying that wasn't particularly insightful. not that many teams are comfortable mid table come Jan. 1.

Apparently 2.5 million per year plus a 1m survival bonus.

I shudder to think how many millions we've wasted on emergency managers and contract severances over the last few years

On top of that I did a calculation just after Mutch signed nearly three years ago and reckoned even by then we had wasted £28mill or thereabouts on hasbeens and no-hopers. I'm gonna go for £60mill plus by now for all the deadwood and severances.

Good, don't let the door smack your ar$e on the way out!

I have supported palace through loads of managers, and will support them through many, many (at this rate many) more!!
