Well,Funty, yes I did say that people who don't give a toss if people are offended are IMHO the "problem" in getting to the point where "we" don't feel its clever or feel the need to resort to homophobia-derived "up the bum" chants against Brighton to wind them up..which is not the same as saying all those who sing them are homophobic or that I personally get amazingly uptight about it at games...

Well, as I said, it highlights the difference between us, doesn't it. To me (and a good few thousand others), it's simply part and parcel of the traditional rivalry between the clubs. There are far more serious things out there to take offence at than chants at a football match.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

It's very unfortunate but reality is that English football has a large following of thick, uneducated people who get self and short term satisfaction by insulting others. They feel threatened (but of cousre will never admit that) by people who are different to themselves. Travel and a variety of life experience changes these attitudes but the bulk of these people have little of either, no matter what they claim. They think that because they have jobs that pay well, they are educated and that's where the problem lies - money is everything in British culture, it even means people believe the more they have the more they are educated, when in fact the opposite is true.

It was good to hear Holmesdale radio opinion supporting a change to the anti gay song replacing up the bum with fecking scum.

Let's hope that those that despite all this discussion still believe that singing up the bum is just banter, will have enough respect for the rest of their fellow fans to toe the line in this case.

People who announce that they are offended are basically telling the world that they can't control their own emotions, so everyone else should do it for them.

No offence intended!

Does the same apply to black people who have been regularly insulted for decades? Is it their fault for not being able to control their emotions?

When our fans are singing Brighton fans take it up the bum, there are properly gay palace fans at the game singing it as well so what's the problem.

Just making a mounting out of a mole hill, its football it happens, why get all political over a song

This is more to do with white British middle class who are offended on others behalves often to the bewilderment and amusement of the people they are supposedly defending
And many different types of people have been regularly insulted for decades centuries even, not just our black friends.
I can't speak for any particular group of people who are insulted and threatened directly and therefore offended that's not my place.
I do however know that many of these groups of identities and individuals handle their emotions in their own way and not to be patronized by self righteous moralists.

Well, that's exactly your problem in your own way though;you yourself are being a self righteous moralist, but in the opposite direction.

Speaking as a member of a group sometimes subject to offensive chanting at some clubs' games, I don't need a self-righteous moraliser like you to tell me bilge like the only people offended can be "self righteous middle class" people as opposed to members of a "target" group themselves

What group are you a member of?

You appear to get offended very easily.

Are you saying I have a problem on my behalf?
Because I wasn't aware I had a problem. But if you think I have and that I am a self righteous moralist then who am i?
Obviously as my spokesman you can tell me

And which group are you affiliated to?

Would that group be a self righteous one?

You seem to be a bit offensive yourself telling people that they have problems and calling names.
Do you have empathy towards the plight of the Palestinians?
Just interested because I have a feeling they have lots of things to be offended about
