Southampton are absolutely not an example to follow. In terms of transfers, the idea you can decide who you'll buy long in advance is laughable. You don't know what your needs will be until the time. Getting Cahill makes sense because both our centre backs are injured and we received an offer too good to refuse for AWB. The club couldn't have known either would happen six months ago, but it did and so we had to react quickly. Mostly though people seem to think you can 'push through' a transfer if DF and SP work hard enough. That's bollocks. The club can (and do) identify targets but whether the other club accepts our bid and the player agrees is completely out of our hands. It isn't a science.

Someone told me a couple of days ago that Luka had signed his contract about 10 days ago and they held off the announcement until now in case they had a bad window. Whilst it's great news, it really doesn't pave over the massive cracks and poor management of the club.

“Southampton are absolutely not an example to follow.” In some aspects but their youth set up has been pretty effective over the years.

Played like a fiddle, you are a PR persons dream. Its great news about Luka but the timing of it was so annoyingly manipulative, I am sure Parish must think most fans (or enough of us) are very dim. This great re-signing doesn't disguise from the fact that the window has been alarmingly poor.
One of the biggest mysteries in life is that loud stupid people normally don't have even the slightest inclination that they are stupid. |

How many Palace players have left after one year of signing a contract, could you supply the list? Unless we get a silly offer like AWBs, he isn't going anywhere

This is complete nonsense, and not just with the Southampton model, which incidentally was fantastic, only they should’ve used a bit of our strategy with it. In your world we’d be scouting players in the transfer window, when there’s, erm, no football being played to scout and watch potential signings, especially in Europe when they stop for 2+ weeks. If we used your method we’d be pretty much be signing players the whole of the premier league has seen on tv hundreds of times, which is exactly what we do mostly. Under your stewardship there’d be no point in scouts or anything. And I don’t understand why you think we’re anything other than a stepping stone or a club that isn’t up there with the big players, unless you want us to have players with no aim or ambition and settle for spending 8 months in the bottom 5.

Luka signing new terms is probably the best bit of business during the transfer window. He could walk into many sides competing in the CL right now.

Luka signing a new 4 year contract is the best business we have done this year.

This post has been merged from a topic called ' Sell Milli?' by bexleydave Utterly spurious sending off today, highlights how $hite var is,, interesting to see the ref us the screen,, eventually, dont think i seen it used in prem yet. Anyway regardless milli will cost us with his yellow and now red card tally ,, way too high,, prob more so with var. His passing should be way better, we have a lot of players for that position , so sell while he has decent value? (Not a milli out thread, or my opinion , just seeking thoughts.)

This post has been merged from a topic called ' Sell Milli?' by bexleydave He is in team because of lack of quality in squad. Would not get in most other premiership sides on regularly basis .In fact apart from about 4 most would not .
