Will this transfer rumour turn out to be sweet or sour ?

Bizarre. Homosexual references and Straw Men in the same post. Good work!! I think we agree that professional footballers should not take less money for the "love of the game". We also agree that you can't judge professional footballers by the "average" norm. I don't think I have ever said that footballers should be paid whatever they want. However, I think that each of them is a product with its own "brand". Thus, they should be paid whatever they can negotiate. Regarding the second part of my alleged argument (which is an argument that I did not make by the way), why do you say Jenkinson had "hardly been at work" for the last 12-18 months? He played a large proportion of the 2014/2015 season on loan at West Ham, and did the same until January 2016 when he was injured. He then had to fight his way back to full fitness until November 2016. Sounds like he has been working to me. However, taking your argument at face value, if I had been off work for a 18 months and someone wanted to employ me for the same money, but I wanted more - I would expect them to tell me to jog on and come back when I have a more realistic expectation - which is what we seem to have done. I wouldn't expect that they would say, "well you obviously don't love bricklaying", or whatever it is that I do for a job. I don't wish to labour the point, and I think we are basically saying similar things, but this "love of the game" stuff drives me absolutely potty.
