Gotta say I am sick up and fed with people slagging off Croydon

I have said it many times. I choose to live in Croydon. I wouldn't fancy living in Selhurst or Thornton Heath but anywhere in the South of Croydon is fine. I have lived around Addiscombe most of my life and as far as I am concerned it's holding its own despite losing both its stations. In fact South Norwood seems to be improving.

I like visiting places in e.g. Sussex, they are very nice. But when I have had choices I have stayed in Croydon, there must be a reason. People blanket bombing Croydon with their bile and hatred really get on my wick.

Best places I ever lived were Miri and Galle, great places and great people. But they aren't home and you can't rely on a cynical wise crack when you need one.

Why though?

Anything past Katherine Street heading down into the ghetto that is west Croydon is an utter s*** hole.

I'm from Croydon lived there all my life, but to deny it's going/gone to the dogs is ridiculous, I used to live in Addiscombe, and compared to what it was like as I grew up, to what it's like now makes me cringe, a quick look at half the punters that drink in the beehive these days will give you a good indication of the social demographic around there at present.

Having said that, compare Croydon to some other parts of London like say tower hamlets or Bethnal Green and Croydon becomes Provence.

Between mayday hospital all along broad green and up to west croydon has always been an absolute dive, crime riddled, stabbings, murder and such like and not somewhere you walked alone after dark.

I see the very good antic pub chain have just taken over the spoons , not been there yet but they have a good track record on decent places to open boozers

Didn't we have this discussion before Danny? Croydon is home, you know a South Londoner without asking because they come with a certain attitude.

The majority of Croydon isn't Broad Green/Thornton Heath/Selhurst. Look up the population demographics. I just visited a mate in Cheltenham and his experiences there have been far worse than mine here, you get dodgy bits almost everywhere. Avoid them and live for the day. There's lots about Croydon to enjoy, enough so that my kids refused to leave it for Prague.

How many Australians do you actually know?(Exclude Celebrities on TV and Jedi)
At a guess I would say NIL

Where as, I would probably meet at least a hundred a day!

Many Brits these days have left the UK to live in Spain,Australia,NZ,USA etc, would most return,i don't think so

Australia is amazing with a great lifestyle,
How do you feel living in the UK presently?

COYP

Without wishing to get into a debate as to which is the better place to live (each to their own and all that), with regard to the highlighted comment..having worked for Border Force/Immigration Dept for many years...believe me they do! How many I don't know but to categorically say they dont is wrong

I used to frequent Cinatras near there in the day, I see the area hasn't changed much. Had all the qualities as above, but I don't remember anyone being murdered there.
