Staunton's lob was a couple of season back. It was a great piece of skill and quick thinking. TF wouldn't appreciate that!! That was my best ever goal - if it had been in a Premiership game it would have been goal of the season. Keeper hoofed the ball, Staunton was near the halfway line, didn't even trap the ball - just hit it first time straight into the net. Rivalled Beckham's lob against Wimbledon
Trivial fact - Palace used to win 5-1 at least once a season, maybe next season? |

I thought Andrejs Rubins goal against Leicester earlier in the cup before we played Liverpool was also pretty darn good. Edited by the despotic banana (28 Mar 2003 5:00pm)

Hopkin Play-off final has to be number 1 for me (made especially sweet after being there for the Claridge's goal the year b4), Rubins v Pool, Staunton goal, and even tho the old memory is a bit shakey i can remember a Jansen blinder while he was with us.

How about: Ian Wright against Chelsea; August 1990. He turned Chelsea's Norwegian centreback (name escapes me) after receiving ball from Humphrey and then delicately chipped beasant from 25 yards - a beauty; especially as that was the winner.

My fav is Southgate's equaliser V Blacburn on the opening day of the season (92/93?). Corner swung it, was headed out to Southgate just outside the box and central to the goal, he just caught one one of the most most perfect half volleys ever. The ball rose and dipped just under the bar. Superb piece of finishing!

1. John Hughes versus Sheffield United (circa 1973/4). 2. Peter Taylor, free kick, 3rd goal vs. Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, FA Cup 5th Round, 1975. 3. Ian Walsh, vs. Burnley, Selhurst 1979. 4. Supa Al. 5. The Ian Wright goal vs. Chelsea and the Salad goal vs. Forest both mentioned in this thread. Also, Wright's goal in the same Forest match, almost better than Salad's for my money. 6. Ricky Newman vs. Coventy at Highfield Road, November 1994. Doubt many have seen it, but an absolute cracker. 7. Hoppy.

anyone remember palace vs wolves 1995 coca cola cup quarter final? 4-1? two of those got stuck in the struture of the goalpost! and darren pitcher smacked it from miles out, volleyed it into the corner of the net! not forgetting the greatest ever own goal - eric young (i think?) knobbing the ball over nigel martyn outside of his area - classic!

What about teh goal Gordon Petric scored at Sheffield United in 1999? (Was the season after we were relegated last and were about to go into admin). We were right behind it, was hit from about 35 yards and went like a bullet into the top corner
