and people who can't be arsed to vote... errrrgh! if only about 2 more people could be more arsed to vote in america we probably wouldn't even be in this situation! I seem to remember that plenty of Floridians wanted to vote, but were prevented from doing so. The fact that they were almost 100% poor black people who would have voted Democrat is, I am sure, a coincidence. After all, cousin Jeb just wouldn't do anything corrupt, would he? He's a BUSH, goddam it!

Civilian casualties are a sad side to war but it's hardly a new thing.

Point taken on that - i see what you mean. As civilian casualties are an enivitable factor of war , do you really think that Bush is prepared to do this unless he has at least reasonable doubt that saddam is capable of some sort of nuclear attack.? I'm not asking these questions in a confrontational way at all , i would just like to know an american view on why this war is going to happen.?

AH, the American view. I guess that's my cue. (I really need to start checking ALL Talk more...) I think Bush looks like a big Warmonger in my book. Hello, what happened to Bin Laden and the Taliban??? Not to say Saddam Hussain isn't acting like a little prick but all he really seems to be is a good wind up merchant. If he starts doing something stupid like invading Kuwait again, then fine, send in the Air Force again and have his army give up to the TV reporters covering the assault. (again) Remember Libya and Kadaffi and his vaunted "Line of Death"? Haven't heard from them in the past 20 years have we? Because after we spanked them, we sent them to their room and we LEFT THEM ALONE. Since when have we left Iraq alone since 91? We've been squabbaling back and forth ever since. We have spys, if they build nukes, take them away from them. I have to refer to the song at the beginning to this thread that there is more then a shread of truth to that! And I think that is kind of the underlying feeling here in the heartland of America. Now North Korea, they seem scarier then the Iraq nation. But I digress. What does all this have to do with fighting the Taliban????

Great song. Good luck to all those going on anti-war marches. Unfortunately, I don't think Bush and Blair will take any notice, so intent are they are whipping Saddam's a$$. Perhaps if they put pressure on the likes of Israel to respect UN resolutions in the same way that we demand of Iraq, some of us anti-war brigade may see the conflict ahead slightly differently.

marches went well amd i am doing this
Place: Federal Building Plaza, Marion/Madison on 2nd Avenue in Seattle Why: Thirty people, representing individuals and organizations from all over the state, will meet with Senators Murray and Cantwell to proclaim the local opposition to our country's invasion of Iraq. They will hand deliver over 9,000 signatures from Washington residents and read some of the signer's comments. (Washington is third in number of signatures on this nationwide petition behind only California and New York.)"

I see Rumsfeld is now offering Saddam an amnesty against prosecution if he leaves Iraq now. Yet more unbelievable chutzpah from the Septic Tanks -- how can they have the nerve to offer exemption from a court which they refuse to even recognise?! And people say Americans don't understand irony...
