Edward VIII (by then the Duke of Windsor) seemed fairly keen on Hitler, to the extent that if they had succeeded in invading Britain I think they were proposing to put him back on the throne. However, he (and his wife) were the only ones I know of who actually came out and expressed support. The Nazi party didn't suddenly take power, start invading countries and committing mass murder. It was a bit more subtle than than. When the Nazi's first got into power they actually did a good job sorting out the economy and created almost zero unemployment. The fact that many people (including some royals) were impressed by this, and made comments to that effect, does not mean they supported the terrible atrocities that the Nazi's went to to commit. Just thought I'd point it out. Don't want a fellow HOL member being sued for liable!

I blame the parents. If he'd gone dressed as a Bee would he be supporting people getting stung ?

If he'd gone dressed as a Bee would he be supporting people getting stung ? I never know if people are being serious or not! Are you equating going dressed as a Bee with going dressed as a Nazi? It's not really about whther he is a card carrying Nazi (you never know with that lot) but surely you can see that dressing up as a Nazi has wider connotations and implications and is, in any event, offensive to a great many people?

it was a fancy dress party. If he was walking down the street dressed as a nazi then it might be an issue, as it is all he's guilty of is insensitivity. Which proves Phil the Greek is his grandad. This is a non story

He is a memeber of the royal family who represent Britian (much to my shame) and he should know better than to dress as a Nazi. It is not the same as someone dressing as Jack the Ripper. My Nan lost 4 brothers fighting against the Nazis, she always respected the royals, to see him dressed that that affects a lot of people. He should be ashamed of himself.

... but surely you can see that dressing up as a Nazi has wider connotations and implications and is, in any event, offensive to a great many people? I'm sure just about everything ever said or done will offend someone. We seem to be living in a time where everyone is obsessed with never causing offense and seeing who can be the most right-on! The test should be whether a "reasonable" person would find offense... not does anyone find offense. IMO only an oversensitve saddo with no life would take offense.

IMO only an oversensitve saddo with no life would take offense. I heard a guy on the radio who was in Auschwitz and saw all his family die there and was very offended by him wearing a symbol of fascism, would that make him a saddo with no life? Yep. That's the views of one man not the entire Jewish people. No doubt he'd have found the play "The Producers" written by the Jewish comedian Mel Brook's, offensive as well. In that they dress up and take the p*ss out of Hitler and the Nazi's. If young Harry was in the habit of wearing old German uniforms because he respected what they did and it some sort of "tribute" to their achievements, then I could understand peoples "shock". But it was a comic fancy dress costume FFS! No exactly side splittingly funny but then again not offensive unless you're a miserable cnut with no life.
