oh i see, depends who you listen to, unicef said that half a million under 5's died because of the sanctions... Yep. What rotters the Americans and the British were, imposing all those nasty sanctions on that nice Mr. Saddam who decided to spend billions on palaces and other valuables for him and his friends, letting his people die of disease and starvation. How easy it is to blame the sanctions when, in fact, it was the regime that failed to provide adequate food and medical care, even though they had the resources to do so.

of course he was/is - just trying to show how we managed to f**k up the country in many ways and all this 'improvement' is actually just undoing some of the damage WE did too.

Spot on Cucking. It was Saddam's fault for creaming the cash off for himself and close aides, while depriving the people of decent food and medical, even thought they blindly supported him.

Ray Reynolds may well believe in the war and in what he's doing, but that doesn't mean the majority of troops in Iraq feel the same. We're forever seeing troops interviewed stating that they're there to do a job despite not agreeing with the war. My cousin and his colleagues in Iraq at the moment feel exactly that. You're forgetting that we officially went to Iraq to find non-existant wmd's mattwebb. Not to remove Saddam, not to rebuild the country and not to kill innocent civillians. It may well have been, but that didn't stop the Americans supporting that very regime and selling him weapons.

cucking - are you saying sanctions didn't deprive the people of medical supplies? by the way martin - i don't read the guardian, i am not a pacifist and i am not far left - but i do think this war, along with people across the board, was and is a disgrace. I truly struggle to name many people I have met who feel we were wrong to go into Iraq. People where I used to work (BA, Heathrow), where I work now (Leeds), friends both in London and Yorkshire pretty much all agree with my points of view.
