The thing is, you'll probably find that practically none of your non-Christian colleagues could give a s*** whether it is a Christmas lunch or not - they're probably just glad to have the opportunity for a decent meal and some time off work. The only one's who'll be offended are those who have a massive chip on their shoulder, and the whatever department it is who has responsibility for political correctness. My sister-in-law is a Muslim (not particularly practicing though), and she still celebrates Christmas - it's a chance for a national holiday (like Easter) so why not make the most of it.
That's just the ramblings of a madman |

Damn right Mr Statto. I used to work for a music publishers owned and staffed by a Jewish family, I worked with two Jewish engineers and we had a large, Muslim and Hindu accounts department. Each year we had a big Christmas dinner which we ALL enjoyed for what it was - a free lunch.

I work for the Corporation of London and every December we have a christmas lunch in the Guildhall with the Lord Mayor, its all good fun. What a complete joke!! I'd like to see the PC bunch on here defend this! Ring up the Evening Standard or any of the other local papers as it's a great story that will show up how political correctness is ruining this country.

This has been followed up by a main spokesperson. I think that the worst thing about these crazy decisions is that the never come from a complaint from somebody who believe is different from mine. Its always some do good pompus twit who has no idea what is an offense to other religions.

We get this PC crap over here in OZ too. Shopping centres avoiding playing Christmas music. A suspicion of a cut back in Christmas decorations by some shopping centres. The list goes on. It's absolute nonsense. When I lived in or visited other cultures --- Japan -- for example -- I repected their right to behave like Japanese in their own country. Never a problem. If there was something I didn't like or found irritating -- I avoided it. Simple!!!

If you think about it, it's perfectly reasonable. After all, it is only Christians who celebrate Christmas and take the Christmas holiday and give (and take) presents at Christmas...

What a huge overreaction. Do you celebrate the birth of Jesus ? Sing Carols ? I doubt it. It's a staff do, just think yourself lucky you get a do of any kind. I attend churh every Sunday, I have been Christianed, confirmed and have communion And also enjoy midnight mass its my belief which is why the above title states Angry English Christian. I was not allowed to have a small St georges flag on my monitor or wear a England football T-Shirt with a St georges cross on the back when there were poeple walking about in other nations colours. Maybe it was an overreaction on hindsight but it seems that whenever we want to celebrate our heritage, its deemed as wrong? Edited by AJISGOD (21 Oct 2004 10:46am)
