Dave Swindlehurst: legend, because, he was one quality striker, helped secure us promotion - remember?!

Being a younger fan, my choice may seem a little strange.

Gareth Southgate

Such a great player, could play in the middle of the park or in defence, not entirely sure how many games he played for us, but I know that when he did play - he was a real asset to the team. Not to mention that he is, nowadays, the model professional.

Is this a cult choice, or not? If it is, ignore it!

Dougie Freedman! kept the club from being in Huddersfields position with that goal at Stockport! Pure class, pure emotion, what footballs all about!

Ignore what you think about his recent performances he's getting on a bit. He's been a great servant to the club in my opinion as have the others mensioned.

Unfortunately not, I wasn't old enough! I know of him though and what a good player he was but does being quality make him a Palace legend? David Hopkin was quality and helped secure promotion but I wouldn't say he was a legend.

Ironically, im not old enough to 'remember' Swindlehurst either, but me old man loves him (in a non-gay way)and so do most of the fans that were around at that time. It wasn't just his promotion stuff, he scored and scored and scored! quality player from what i've heard and seen.

Also, i think i have a bit of bias to him as
he has met up with me and my dad a few times after we saw him at Crawley Town.(who he is assistant manager for)

Exaggerating a bit there. Old Swindle was never what you would call prolific - normally a 10-15 goals a season man.

I am just about old enough to remember him at Palace and he sure was a great target man. Went on to do a solid job at Derby and West Ham once the team of the 80s bubble burst

From what I remember about him he wasn't really an out and out target man. He was ok in the air but had a good touch for big man & was quite a good link up player.

To my mind he wasn't really a good enough player, had enough impact or make enough appeareances to be considered a legend.

What about a 'fans favourite' then?

Well what constitutes a legend is all about opinions but to me a fans favourite isn't really enough on it's own. My favourite player from when I was a kid was Hilaire & more recently Andy Thorne, but I haven't included then as "definates"
