No that's how much we paid for him. If he were to leave it would be for considerably more than that. He still has 2 years left on his contract so we don't need to sell him this window. He hasn't covered himself in glory at the Olympics by all accounts, so if the fee on offer was big enough... who knows

The question, of course, is whether or not he wants to play second fiddle to Watkins, although with Villa in the CL he'd get some decent minutes.

Although, I've been a fan of Mateta from well before he made his mark last season, I do wonder how he'll figure this season. It was very much the Eze-Olise-Mateta triumvirate that made the magic happen towards the end of last season. Olise ahs gone; there are question marks over Eze's future so could Mateta repeat his form with a different line-up alongside him?

The end of last season might have been a purple patch that is not repeatable, but the encouraging thing for me was the ruthlessness of his chance conversion. He wasn't scoring loads because Ebs and Michael were creating soooo many chances, he was able to miss two or three before scoring. In those last few games he was converting well over 50% of his chances, and very few of them were just tap ins. The chances might not be as regular without Olise (and possibly Ebs) but that would make him more valueable to us, as in that case we can't afford profligacy.

The sale of Metetta might have a bit of truth to it , i see on newsnow that Palace have decided to keep Édouard now .

Never believe the 'we are palace' clickbait site. They are not palace, they are based in Widnes & do every EPL club with the same crap, avoid.

At this rate with all the clickbait selling our players, we'll be fielding the under 18's as out first team next season.

He has two years left on his contract, let him play them and walk on a free, we will get enough from other players sales, probably Olise bending his ear in France

Yea you're right , not like he cost a fortune to begin with, I see he scored for France tonight , wouldn't suprise me if he linked up with Mr Personality in Bayern Munich. Hey Lanzo any chance you could send over some Melatonin it's for a friend.

He's spent two years fighting to become number one here and has finally won that battle and hit form. Why would he then leave to go and be second choice behind Ollie Watkins elsewhere?

Similarly, are Villa really going to spend 40-50m on a backup?

He has always been a good finisher the difference last season was he massively improved the rest of his game. Before then his hold-up play was awful, his first touch terrible and his positioning questionable. I know he got 14 in 16 under Glasner but massive improvements in his all-round game were showing from November/December onwards. One of the most remarkable transformations I've seen from a Palace player.

If he stays fit he'll hit 20 goals for us next season. Also, he has such a big personality which I think would be hard to replace.
