Agreed. Just because we are due to get a £50m fee for Olise doesn't mean that Dougie is suddenly going to splash out more than necessary for a player.

Smith-Rowe is a good player but he can't command a starting slot in a PL team. Last season he got just 3 PL starts (against Sheff U, Forest and Luton - Arteta obviously doesn't trust him against any clubs better than those) and 10 sub appearances for a total of just 355 mins and, in my book that means he can't be worth what Arsenal want for him.

My figures are as per Transfermarkt who value the player at €22m which is the most I'd want to pay for him.

This might be coming from his agent...£35 would be a top figure which would be negotiated down.. but like everyone has said, but whether Smith Rowe is the best we can do remains to be seen...

Loan, with option to buy, or after OG magic a buyback option (say £10M) for Arsenal to pay reflecting the increase in his value while at Selhurst Park.

Possible figures
Loan £6M
buy at end of loan £15M
buyback at end of loan £10m.

Pluses: Plays the right-sided No.10 we have lost with Olise leaving
23 and premier League proven
Croydon born
Reasonable goalscoring record
Apparently wants to leave
Only on 40 grand cf Nelson and Nketiah on 100

Minuses: Gone down pecking order at Arsenal
Injury-prone in many areas. Bit lightweight
High price for, possibly, marginal starter/first off
bench level
Doesn't fit the preferred buying pattern of foreign or Championship players

I think he is a reasonable shout, particularly if the price is reduced and Eze goes

Really liking the loan option.

The difference between Arsenal and Chelsea is that Arsenal expect ridiculous transfer fees for their relatively low paid rejects while Chelsea are willing to sell theirs at a fair price to get shot of the crazy salaries they agreed when they bought them. Wouldn’t touch either club with a barge pole.

Crystal Palace are interested in Emile Smith Rowe, who can leave Arsenal for £25m, but the England midfielder, 23, is keen to stay with the Gunners. (Sun)

So clickbait says he would rather sit on the bench then. If true we don't want him.

To be honest I would rather have a player who is desperate to come to us than one who thinks he doing us a favour.

What is it about Arsenal players that they'd rather stay at Arsenal and spend most of their time on the bench than go somewhere else to play regular football? Nketiah was the same. Perhaps they hope they'll get enough appearances so as to get a medal if Arsenal win something.

PS. I note the Sun has the price at £25m and not £35m. Knock another £10m off and he might just be worth considering, assuming he would deign to come to a 'little' club like ours.

This could be club/agent leverage.

On the other hand, if Arsenal players prefer to stay with their home club, even if it means staying on the bench, it suggests a very happy ship.

15/07

Sky have reported that Arsenal, have rejected bids from Crystal Palace and Fulham for Smith-Rowe. Sky haven’t mentioned how much we bid.
