9 dart finish? A nice thought but unlikely. '501, double-out' wasn't really a thing when Woosnam was in his heyday. And in any case today's dartboard wasn't commonplace back then, and didn't exist at all in the north-west where Woosnam lived. Dartboards had numerous different styles and layouts, certainly varying from region to region and often from pub to pub. The treble ring, which enables a 9-dart 501, is a relatively recent addition. Not wishing to dilute Woosnam's achievements but according to what I've read, he DIDN'T play in an FA Cup final but he did play for Man City when they finished runners-up in the league. In addition to the Wimbledon doubles title mentioned by Teddy Eagle, he also won an Olympic gold medal and a silver one, in tennis.

And as I'm sure you are aware, Geoff Hurst was a top cricketer, but times had changed since Compton's days such that he inevitably had to choose between football and cricket. Hence he only played one first-class match for Essex CCC, in addition many 2nd XI appearances. That's still one more than most people can claim though!

I believe that Compton played football for Arsenal in the winter and cricket in the summer. Of course in those days you had proper seasons for sport.
