What a joke. Just hoping our boys get a tournament ban 5 minutes into the first game. Football, Golf, Tennis, Basketball are just a few of the sports that should not be at the Olympics. The Olympics as the name suggest should be the pinnacle of a sportsperson career, the gold medal the one that everyone in that sport wants to win.

With Chelsea and Arsenal, along with some European clubs, refusing to send players to the Olympics, it's disappointing to learn that we are likely to see two key players miss pre-season and risk injury. In addition to the four in the England squad for the Euros, that's a big chunk of the team potentially missing Ollie's build up. I realise it's unlikely they'll all be playing, but the club seems enthusiastic about their being selected. I conclude that we are doing all we can to encourage them to stay.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Its a huge annoyance, but players playing on the biggest stage will further highlight our pathway. In Whartons case a very short one at that.

Olise was always going to the Olympics when not picked for the Euro squad. Mateta is kind of a surprise. If the Olympics weren't in Paris, he probably wouldn't be in the squad, as not so key that France wins. They want to win the gold in the Olympics they host. I don't love it either, but hopefully our first few games are either with bottom teams or MC/Arsenal where their presence may not be missed as much.

If our players do well - it'll increase the interest in them. If they do badly it could dent their confidence. If they get injured then it's tough sh1t for us. I'm not seeing much of an upside. I've never watched the olympic football before. I maybe watched Denmark win it once or something like that in the eighties. I doubt I'll watch it this time even with our players in it.

Really doesn’t bother me this, for one they might not even be our players by then, especially Olise, and if they are at least it’ll make the Olympic football slightly more interesting and worth having a look at something I wouldn’t normally bother with.

If you're a top player and have the European clubs after you, Palace can't offer you their European opportunities, their cup silverware and sometimes their salaries. The minimum we can really do is encourage their international success. C'est la vie!

To have one of our front three out from the early games of the new season is bad enough; to have two out is even more irritating. How many can even name the last three Olympic winners? The start of the season is important in terms of building early confidence and momentum and you don’t want to go into it with one hand tied behind your back. If britain won it, you'd remember... I'm sure an olympic medal would be something to talk about...

For me international football disrupts the season with constant pauses in the season and , as for the Olympics, it was previously never seen as a vehicle for professional footballers. It may be perceived as a narrow and parochial view, but my main desire is for us to carry the momentum of the end of last season into the new season. Originally posted by Vaibow

Its not a bad thing for our players to get a medal - has not exactly been something we have had seen recently - I wouldn't object to an Olympic Gold medal in my collection of trophies.
