Michael Caine in Get Carter.

By then Caine was an A list Hollywood actor so it was unusual for someone of that ilk to play a completely unsympathetic character. Everyone who tries to help him in the movie ends up dead or hurt and he doesn't care.

The remake with Stallone was rubbish because "I'm a big star so my character has to be righteous in his vengeance."

Lee Van Cleef for me.

Was watching end of Good the Bad and the Ugly with the amazing 3-way face-off and seeing Lee's missing fingertip, hovering over his pistol, then a flash of his 'angel eyes' as he decides who to shoot...superb acting and fast editing.

Jonathan Banks from Breaking Bad and Beverley Hills Cop always had that dead-eyed stare which was menacing and tough.

This is a true story, the spaghetti westerns were in full flow when I was born and my mum had a serious crush on him apparently and wanted to call me Lee because of this, but my old man wouldn’t have it……so they ended up calling me Nigel (honestly)

Very good picks, Bronson for also, once upon a time in the west.
Clint Eastwood, Harry Callaghan and many westerns
Gene Hackman, Quick and the dead
Tim Blake Nelson, as Buster Scruggs

How could I forget that one? Strange film because it's very watchable almost despite itself.
Mike Hodges, the director, said that the gunman at the end is sitting opposite Jack on the train at the beginning which I thought adds another level to the story by making it a set-up by his bosses who are even more amoral than him.

I didn't know that.

It's one of those movies that every time I watch it you learn something knew. Carter isn't a righteous killer he had an affair with his brother's wife and the girl is probably his.

His motives for finding out his brother's murderer are dubious to say the least.

Supposedly the story is based on a real life gangster.

Yayan Ruhian in The Raid. For anyone who's a fan of punch ups and general mayhem it's quite a watch. It features an Indonesian martial art called Silat which is very vicious indeed.
Scott Adkins is a tough guy whose films unfortunately don't tend to be very good.
