Chelsea wanted him and Blackburn wanted to accept their offer

Wharton insisted on Palace so he would get to play in the PL and not just loaned back to Blackburn or sit in the reserves - smart lad

We all know that Wharton is decent. But 60 million ?? Never had any competition , that I know about when we bought him for 20million 4 months ago.
Goals /assists?? That’s what alerts teams.

I think teams are looking for something other than goals and assists in defensive midfielders. Wharton is getting a lot pf praise from independent observers.
There was a great demand for players in his position last summer. Caicedo and Lavia had only played 68 games in England before Chelsea (I know) paid 173 million for the pair of them. Would you swap either of them for Wharton?

Three wins and some tired journo makes up a headline that creates gossip.
Me - I think the squad will stay as it is, other than players OG wants gone.
Olise and Eze are decent young men who will give Palace another year unless the club feel we can invest their money wisely or that their injuries are going to be recurrent.
Losing Dougie Freedman would be as big a loss.

and the Beeb's journos have added that rumour to their desire to rid us of Eze and Olise

Im really hoping we can keep our stars for at least one more season. Many of us have paid for years on a reasonably priced season ticket to see some pretty boring football.
Now Glasner is here, we've got a chance of at least getting a season or two of really exciting stuff.
To retain all our stars means a lot. it is like they become part of the family.
To watch Eze and Olise performing together is very special, especially now they are accompanied by such quality and playing a style that gets goals.
Give us one more season lads. Maybe more. Between us all, we can create something very special at Selhurst. I am even thinking Champions League.

I'd say so. I know its a big rise in a matter of weeks, but the boy is unbelievably talented. £60m isnt what he's worth now, but future value.

Hard to remember he's 20, has just been catapulted into a struggling prem team and has put in great performances every week. He's proved he can make the step up.

In the next 3 years I have zero doubts he'll be at a Champions League club.

What's impressive is the net value of today's squad compared with the bargain prices paid for some of them eg Eze, Olise, Guehi, Munoz, Wharton.

There's no doubting Dougie's shrewd ability to acquire talented players putting us into a very strong financial negotiating position. Hope he resists the approach from Newcastle.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

These are my estimates for what we might realistically get for our players, were they to transfer to another club this summer.

name value
geuhi 70
Wharton 60
olise* 60
eze 50
mateta 40
Richards 17
andersen 17
franca 14
Doucoure 14
Munoz 13
Johnstone 12
Henderson 12
Edouard 10
Mitchell 9
lerma 6
hughes 5
Ahamada 5
schlupp 2
ayew 2
ward 0
tomkins 0
riedewald 0
Clyne 0
Total 408

They are estimated market values, amounts I believe clubs would actually pay. I'm sure some are inflated, others too low. I am not super aware of contract status. They do not reflect my personal view of individuals' value to the team in any way. They are only best guess market prices.

Olise, for example, must be worth more but it seems he has a release clause. Hughes is in great form. Edouard is better (I personally feel) than the value I assigned him.

Regardless, we have amassed a great and valuable squad and with some clever trading can afford to lose one or two stars this summer.

And we have some like Ozoh and JRS and unseen youth boys who maybe need adding.

If rumours are to be believed, Liverpool opened discussion on Doucoure at £85M.

I don't believe, of course, and who knows what will come back after a season injured, but...

£14M for a pivotal player has to be on the cheap side.

The report says they are also happy at Palace so even if a clause is partially activated they will need to agree other terms to persuade them to leave.

It probably reflects reality, we might need to sell this summer for the finances, but at least puts the discussion at a sensible level

One of the most annoying aspects of the yearly Zaha will he stay, will he go saga was that the big clubs would unsettle by putting in ridiculously low bids. The Arsenal one where they claimed to be too poor to offer any higher was ridiculous / hilarious - especially as they then blew £70m on Pepe

Now the wanna be suitors know that there is going to be no easy pickings

My view is that £60m is not enough for either of them - Wan Bissaka was £50m - but obviously I am biased!

That was my immediate thought when I first saw the headline, followed by a sense of disappointment if the story was actually true (ie CPFC basically saying that players are available). With Danny Murphy's comments about Eze still fresh in the mind; what was it? He's the complete player ...he's got it all.. he'll be playing in the Champions League next season ... , then let the Champions League clubs pay until the pips are squeezed out, and if you don't want to pay, then f*** off.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

We've got some of the richest owners in English football outside the Middle East.
With their support, a few more gifted wizards and a modernised stadium we could really start going places.
(Think about it Steve and cantilever the Arthur. Call it the Parish if you really want.)
With 35,000 capacity, big owners, top manager, players, DoF etc etc we can start to soar.
