The only thing that I notice when comparing is that in Glasner's fixtures we have played 3 of the bottom 6 and in Roy's it was 2 (including Everton who are there by points deduction).

Only difficult game in the last 6 was Spurs where you could argue in Roy's it was Arsenal, Brighton (spit!) and Chelsea (being our bogey team).

Reality is that I don't think Glasner has made a startling difference to results and nor would I. I always thought Roy was the best option in keeping us up though it would be ugly to watch.

Personally having made (or forced) to change we have to give Glasner the chance. No one was going to come in and change us drastically with the squad that we have.

There was holes in it before the season started that SP and the Board didn't address and it certainly didn't allow for injuries. If we go down the fault lays there, not with Hodgson or Glasner.

We just hope we can muster enough to stay up and he is given a decent squad to compete next season.

Not winning any of our last 3 doesn't feel great however it's still 1pt extra than what we achieved under Roy.

Under Roy
Luton - erratic display, reliant on Olise's creativity.
Forest- at home, sat deep and on the back foot a lot and didn't create much.
Bournemouth - one of the worst performances of the season, nothing more to be said.

Under Glasner
Luton - dominated in most parts and should have won
Forest - fairly turgid away game, missed good chances to go 2 up.
Bournemouth - tight game for the majority, subs and squad depth the clear difference.

For me I'm very happy we've got Glasner and I can see ther seeds of change despite being further hampered by not having Guehi and Olise. There's clearly more structure to our play rather than just sit back and pray. It's obviously not there yet and I imagine the next two games are gonna be pretty painful but after that we'll collect enough points for sure. Then we can wave goodbye to this awful, injury ravaged season and onto a very busy pre-season!

Roy's future was untenable for me the second he put Olise on against Brighton, there's no argument that can be made that would change my mind. A change was absolutely needed.

Probably, although I suspect Bournemouth would have scored another.

Where the improvement is, surprisingly, is defence. We were hemorrhaging goals under Hodgson, a man famed for his organized defences.

Only because the opposition in Roy’s games were against top 10 teams, rather than bottom 10 teams.

We will be forever grateful to Roy for keeping us in the Premier League for so many years.
However,he has gone, his time is past and a brighter future lies ahead next season under Glasner,as I have no doubt we will remain in the top flight.

Lose, yes. But the new factor was the sheer number of goals conceded.

When have we under Hodgson let in 4 away to Brighton? I suspect we would have lost under Glasner, but not by 4.

For me based on this season the whole Glasner or Roy argument is pointless. I have pity for both.

Roy should have left last summer, the fact he was kept on showed the Board's intent to 'try and make do'. Glasner is hampered by that this season as well, though of course we did add two additions in January.

For me the important fact is that having got a new manager in, should we stay up will the Board do what is required and rebuild a capable squad or will they make the same mistakes again.

If we don't go down this year, we will be favourites next season. Can't afford to kick the can down the road again.

Stats can be made to back who you want them to back unless there has been an obvious upturn in results and there hasn't been .

Saying Roy/Glasner had this player available and that player out injured is neither here nor their .Glasner has had Munoz and Wharton if not Olise and Guehi

To show how meaningless it all is lets wait for ten games and then compare . Lets wait 5 seasons even .

For the future I'd take Glasner over Hodgson.
However, for Saturday I'd take Hodgson who has a decent record v Man City!

This, generally (especially Olise vs Brighton) plus props to the OP.

We are certainly moving in the right direction. And it feels like we are unlucky not to win games, vs not not having a clue.

Historically Roy's team have always been rubbish going forward, but very difficult to score against. Once he lost the ability to keep teams out we were in trouble.

Even in post game interviews for me there is a clear difference in Glasner and Roy. Roy talks more generally about play and possession. Glasner looks at specific moments, e.g. highlighting Mitchells cross across the 6 yard box late on - asking why more of our players weren't in the box.

I know it sounds minor, but for me he is looking to help find relatively simple answers (to our lack of creativity). And clear he will be imploring players to have the bravery and confidence to get themselves in the right position.

I suspect Leicester fans were saying the same thing in 2014...

Seriously, Roy did enough last season to demonstrate he was capable of holding the fort for another season. This was for economic reasons, sure, but also to buy time to acquire a new coaching head and agree terms at everyone's pace. Who knew we would be ravaged by so many key long term injuries and that Roy's health would simultaneously collapse?

Roy and Ollie experience(d) the same problem. Meagre resources and a squad ravaged by injuries. Ollie had the benefit of two decent purchases in the January window but has since lost others to injury. Olise should never have been on the bench for Roy to call on if he had not fully recovered from injury so I do wonder how good our background and medical staff are? Franca and Rak Sakyi may have potential but sadly, the rest of our youngsters appear out of their depth in this League and are just there to make up the numbers. Irrespective of whether we survive this season, and who our manager is, a major reorganisation of the squad was always going to be necessary this summer.

Slightly surprised to immediately start seeing some references to 'if Roy was still in charge' across various threads. Given that I have nothing to do at work today, I thought I'd compare Roy's final five games to Glasner's first five games.

Hodgson final five fixtures:

Everton (Away - FA Cup) - Lost 1-0
Arsenal (Away) - Lost 5-0
Sheff Utd (Home) - Won 3-2
Brighton (Away) - Lost 4-1
Chelsea (Home) - Lost 3-1

Glasner first five fixtures:

Burnley (Home) - Won 3-0
Spurs (Away) - Lost 3-1
Luton (Home) - Drew 1-1
Forest (Away) - Drew 1-1
Bournemouth (Away) - Lost 1-0

Goals Scored Per Game

Hodgson - 1
Glasner - 1.2

Expected Goals Per Game (xG)

Hodgson - 1.05
Glasner - 1.38

Goals Conceded Per Game

Hodgson - 3
Glasner - 1.2

Expected Goals Against Per Game (xGa)

Hodgson - 1.44
Glasner - 0.90

Shots Taken Per Game

Hodgson
Shots - 11.2
Shots on Target - 4.6

Glasner
Shots - 10.6
Shots on Target - 3.2

Shots Conceded Per Game

Hodgson
Shots - 13.2
Shots on Target - 5.6

Glasner
Shots - 9.4
Shots on Target - 3.8

Hodgson - 40%
Glasner - 43.2%

Passes Per Game

Hodgson - 395.6
Glasner - 398.6

Average Pass Accuracy

Hodgson - 76.8
Glasner - 75.6

Since Glasner has come in we have a win, two draws and two defeats versus a win and four defeats.

We've scored 0.2 more goals a game under Glasner and our expected goals total has also increased. However, Hodgson was closer to meeting his xG which indicates that the quality of our finishing has dropped.

At the other end of the pitch, there is obviously a massive drop in the amount of goals conceded, reducing by 1.8 goals a game on average. We're also now expected to concede less than a goal a game on average, a metric that has massively dropped from 1.44 per game.

We're conceding far fewer shots and the shots that we are conceding are less often on target and less likely to result in a goal, suggesting perhaps that they are from tougher positions.

Our possession has increased by over 3% but the volume and accuracy of passes is about the same.

I think it's worth adding as well that Glasner has had less key players available in that run.

If you consider Eze, Olise and Guehi as perhaps our three 'main' players, Hodgson had Olise available twice, Eze available three times and Guehi available four times.

Glasner, on the other hand, has had Eze available in four games but hasn't been able to use Olise or Guehi once yet.

Once those guys are back you'd expect our metrics to improve further.

It's clear that we've improved under Glasner. Assuming he can keep us up, with a full summer transfer window under his belt, there is reason to believe that next season could be significantly improved.

Anyway, that's half an hour wasted. Thanks for reading if you made it this far.

30 mins well spent!
