The thing is, when people see MOD and Blue Light, they immediately think of soldiers at the sharp end, doctors being run ragged in A & E, firemen running into burning buildings and policemen protecting us from gun wielding terrorists. The reality is that the majority of MOD and Blue Light card holders are admin/clerical staff who are not exactly putting their lives at risk for king and country. The system is over subscribed and open to abuse.

The card is perhaps most well-known for being an NHS discount card. All NHS employees are eligible to apply for a Blue Light Card, including bank staff, support workers and admin assistants. But the list of eligible professions is probably longer than you think. Most of these job roles come under the umbrella of frontline or first-response, from the police, ambulance and fire service to National Highways traffic officers and Cave Rescue. Other eligible professions include Blood Bikes, Mountain Rescue, and the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution). All armed forces eligible.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

It is a typical human reaction to want an advantageous position to last forever. Edited by tonymikejoe (02 Apr 2024 11.34am)

MODS please feel free to move if in wrong place. The club have cancelled the discount for season tickets to NHS, Police, Fire service, Army, Air Force, and Navy personnel. This has happened without warning or notification, I felt so strongly that I informed the Mirror Sport who took up the story, link below. Before I contacted the Mirror, I asked to the club to clarify the decision the reply is below. Good morning, Thank you for your email and sincere apologies for the late response. I understand that the removal of the discount may come as disappointing news, especially considering the support and loyalty you have shown to the club over the years. Please know that this decision was not made lightly, and we value the contributions of our military personnel. I would like to clarify that when season ticket renewals went on sale last season, we informed supporters in person or over the phone that the discount would no longer be applicable for the 24/25 season. I have since spoken to our box office and the discount will not be reinstated. We recognise that changes like these can be unsettling, and we apologise if there was any confusion or inconvenience caused. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I was not informed in person, or over the phone LOl. Surely removing a discount that I had for over 10 years, should've been communicated by at least an email ? The way the club is treating fans at the moment leaves a lot to be desired and when you complain you just get lied to, with not even a hint of an apology. To be honest its not even about the extra £270 I've got to pay its the fag packet way they've dealt with it, and then when called out on it, literally lied to the newspapers to save face. its only going to save the club £25000 ( their info given to the mirror ) which in the big scheme of things is peanuts. I did ask them how they value the armed forces when they've removed the discount, and shock horror no reply. In a time when the Spuds cancelled OAP discounts, the fan truly is now regarded as a necessary evil by Prem clubs, and I never thought I'd say that about Palace. I don't know if Sharon Lacey still looks at this page, maybe someone could bring it to her attention ? Cheers Dannyh Where did you get the £25k figure from because of that is all it is then I doubt the club would have gone through with this?
