Its a key part of his progression, not sure whey we should stand in the way of that. Next stop England team, and then we have doubled our money

I don't see U21s as that whatsoever. First team football for us is miles more important. There are loads of U21s who never make the England team.

It’s commercial, we had a new kit to sell, and despite the dodgy flag and the £124 price tag just for the shirt, apparently it’s selling like hot cakes

I see Wharton called up to U21s. I wouldn't let any of our star players play U21s at all. If they really want to, I'd get in touch and limit them to a half. If they're not happy with that, I would think we'd be best off to withdraw them. There are no positives to our first team players in the U21s. We absolutely have to refuse this with Olise also - he's miles above that standard, as is Wharton.

With his 5 PL appearances?

He's in a squad with players like Harvey Elliot, Noni Madueke & Rico Lewis - Wharton has got one of the least impressive CVs of the entire squad, never mind being miles above the standard. He didn't even make the squad initially, he was in the U20s... he only got moved up to U21 because Mainoo was bumped up to the seniors!

I think Wharton is a superb prospect, but he's exactly where he should be with U21 national team.

How many players make the England team without playing U21?

Tyrick Mitchell is one of the few examples I can think of - 90% follow the same progression path, which includes playing for the England U21s.

What’s happened to being proud that some of your team members have been selected to play for England!! Injuries happen, as Lord Kitchener said “YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU”If I were playing at that level I would jump at a chance to play for my country, even in a friendly.

He's integral to our team. Chelsea and Man Utd have cover, we don't. He has only five appearances because that's how long he's been here. The reason is, he gets injured for the U21s, like Olise did for France U21s and we're playing Hughes. I'm frankly surprised that anyone buys into this rubbish. No one watches the U21s. We can't afford to get relegated because we think U21s is important - which no one else other than propaganda nen for the FA are going to say.

We've had a fair number of players get injured training, it doesn't just happen during games or international duty. He is more likely to progress with the England setup if he plays for the U21 and that will only increase his value
Not sure that the club have a veto anyways. Wharton might well be keen to play for his country, albeit not yet at the top level

Exacly this.

I'd expect Wharton will be excited, and will help cement that coming to us was good for progression. Would he have got called up if Chelsea had bought him and loaned him back?

This (hopefully) will be Henderson's last tournament with England. England need another DCM. Another 6 months of PL experience and some England U21's and I reckon that spot will be his

I mentioned those other players in response to your suggestion that Wharton is miles above that standard, which he clearly isn't.

We're not going to get relegated because Wharton plays a game for the U21s. That you don't watch it or find it important doesn't mean that's true of everyone else.

I'd also imagine it's a source of pride for Wharton himself, and if we as his club were to prevent him from playing, I can't imagine that would be a very popular decision... neither with Wharton himself nor with other talented kids who might be considering joining us in the future.
