I've never heard of this guy can one of the experts on here give us a brief summary. Is it the Mitchell position? Can he play wing back, is he any good? Here is my expert opinion: I always saw him as a sort of a 'lesser Joe Gomez' - decent defender, quite a bit of athleticism and therefore deployable across the defence. Perhaps not so expert... but brief.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

24, two footed, as Nicholas says can play all across the deference, over 6 foot, no injury history (until we buy him) on 33k a week, fell out with Moyes, don't know if he knows his Daughter or inside leg measurement
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

He's probably the sort of player we should look at, but wage needs to be right. Looks like WH have tried to offer him a new contract, so they obviously value him to a point. But he's never been more than a bit part player, so lets assume he'll play the same role here.

I have dipped into a West Ham forum. He is clearly well liked however the majority seem to think that, although he is good, he is simply not quite good enough. He would probably be a useful squad player for us if we were to sign him.

The problem being, is this guy isn't good enough to be a starter. And if he is going to be sat on the bench for 99% of the time, I'd rather we used one of our academy prospects to do that.

Academy not yet ready. After Doucoure, our main issue now is a makeshift back 3 with Richards and Guehi out. We could really have done with a fit Holding and a Johnson in the squad to fill the spaces and ensure we didn't have to deplete the midfield by relocating Lerma. But would Johnson move from one bench warming place to another?

The sale of Guehi and/or Anderson might see him start.

Sounds like he'd be good back up, but in reality that's what we have Holding for (granted that hasn't worked out so well). Personally I'd rather we went after first 11 potential players, with the view to relegate on of the current starters. I think you develop a better squad by developing a better first 11. Not buying specifically for the bench.

My son in law is a West Ham season ticket holder. His view is that while Johnson is ok, he's not good enough to start for West Ham. That aside, Johnson is versatile and could provide cover for Munoz and competition for Mitchell so I see the attraction.

I suspect we will buy for that, but Johnson can operate all across the back and could rotate for cup games. Like Holding, not good enough to start for them, not good enough to start for us, but boy could we have done with a fully match fit Holding right now.

Salah wasn't deemed good enough to be a starter for Chelsea... sometimes players need to be at the right club for them. if DF and OG like the look of him, then at the right price he could be worth it.
