I think a lot were guilty of getting caught in the, “it’s impossible for us to win without Zaha” trap. If we had maximised his value by selling say when Pepe went to Arsenal and reinvested in a couple of players like we eventually did with Olise and Eze then we may have been better off immediately. In my opinion it’s a similar mentality to those who thought that because Roy couldn’t get a tune out of our players, no one could. I think this will ultimately be proved totally wrong. No one can argue against your last sentence but it’s having the belief that you can buy well and improve the team by selling for big money and investing wisely that will give you the same net result.

Regardless seeing that our club offering a pathway to regular prem football, national team call ups and moves to top 6 teams is only going to strengthen our recruitment.

Guehi is probably the most likely to be sold. This is really his first big injury. Doucoure has not only signed a new contract, but is out with a long term injury. Any clubs interested will see how he gets on post injury Olise is interesting. From all accounts he has an increased release clause to be activated in the summer. Say it's 50m to 60m, are clubs going to spend that amount of money on someone who had multiple injuries this season ? Again, they may wait to see if he recovers with fitness stability. Eze on the other hand could well be on the radar for many clubs in the summer.

Looking at a starting XI of: Ward/Holding Andersen Richards Munoz Doucoure Wharton Mitchell Ayew Mateta Eze I really do think we could let Guehi and Olise go, get £110m ish, spend the majority of it on 4 replacements just as Villa did when they sold Grealish and West Ham did when they sold Rice, and end up in a stronger position overall.

I would hope to get a lot more than £110m for Olise and Guehi, as I would think both should go for north of £65m, so I would firmoee like £130m and hope a large chunk of that is spent on strengthening the squad.

You know, I can usually work my way through typos (and I do many of my own - note edited), but I need a little help with this one. Edited by silvertop (29 Feb 2024 4.04pm)

Yes I agree with this. Now Glasner is here he will know of players that can strengthen our side in Germany. If him and Dougie can reach agreement or should I say compliment one another then a couple of high value sales will provide a decent war chest to help complete our team. Slightly OT, but at the Burnley game, they were in the box chatting and laughing together like old friends - which hopefully will bode well for their future relationship.

I think FFP will soon bite and the price of players will soften.

A merger of their knowledge of different markets could make for a decent pool of players to select from. I’ve read Glasner does like to be heavily involved in the transfers so it’s unlikely to be similar to the Hodgson era.
