Ha ha! Yes, I know Becky, you're right of course - I'll be the first to grumble.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

More tinkering with the beautiful game!

Football has managed perfectly well with the 2 card system since it's inception, so why change now?

If the rules were applied accurately and consistently (and if they stopped tinkering with the rules so people know what accurately constitutes a foul these days) there would be absolutely no need for this - players would know what they will be carded for and that they WILL BE carded. A few more red's for 2nd yellows would help.

This sounds to me like VAR's second cousin, just waiting to cause more trouble....

I absolutely agree with you Becky.
We want fewer opportunities for refs (or VAR ) to intervene, not more.
What would start out as a simple ideal would soon become a convoluted process. Soon VAR would be consulted to opine whether it’s a yellow, red or sin bin offence. Cue subjectivity and allegations of small team/big team bias etc etc.
Those attending a 3pm KO could expect to exit the ground at 5.30pm or later (we’ve already had a 5pm finish this season) as a result. Already at my tethers’ end with VAR crushing our game and considering whether to go to Bromley instead of Selhurst.

Why do people assume that VAR would be used for all decisions? For example it could be restricted to red card or goal line decisions for example.

I would have thought that the whole reason it's being tested and not directly implemented is to directly ascertain questions on how positive or negative the change would be.

I see no downside to testing.

Im so against this to the point that I won't attend any game that uses it .
Teams reduced in numbers will just park the bus and waste time till they are back to full strength .It will spoil large periods of the game .
What they should be doing is applying the laws as they were intended to be applied , clamp down on cheating and caution players when they are guilty of poor fouls or descent .

And get rid of var . I want my game back all these changes are reducing the spectacle and the enjoyment .

A bit like government we need less of it than more. And at risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist I have an inkling that with games sometimes going as long as 100 minutes, don't be surprised If there isn't albeit secretly & covertly some talk of doing away with the traditional 45 minute halves & introducing four 25 minute quarters to placate big Sponsors

The Americans, I believe, have never understood how we can go that long at a game without food & drink.....

Your concerns aren't lost on me Becky - the application of VAR has definitely been poor - however at least at the moment neither dissent or cynical fouling (unless its inside the box) attract VAR interference, hopefully it stays that way -

Yeah it could be used like that. But it won’t be

Generally I see some of the advantages, but I hate VAR, so a bit unsure about introducing blue cards, one question what happens when a goalie gets a blue card, outfield player has to go in goal, or outfielder goes off replaced by second choice goalie for ten minutes, then all change again, bit of a palava

It works well in Rugby, the difference is the respect the players show the officials. I am favour.
