I agree, Ward has been missed at the back, especially the last ditch challenges and his heading ability. Just perhaps we need him when fit and play Munoz in front of him? Might help us more at the back where we are so frail presently and might be the difference between a draw and a defeat as every point is needed at the moment? When Olise is injured its deffo an option

I also thought the new boys will be an upgrade - you could see the potential and football IQ in Wharton, Muñoz clearly has some attributes we have been missing for some time in that position. However, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think we also have been less defensively secure since Wardy got injured .... his experience and influence on the pitch perhaps has been overlooked. Hopefully a new manger (should someone "accept the mission" might see them as key components of the required new Palace identity, versus the dross "Royball" that currently characterizes the team.

I’ve only seen the highlights so I’ll take those that were there’s word for it, but whatever their performances were like, it was a tough old game for them to make their debuts. But at least it feels like we’re going to see plenty of them, unlike a few other signings who’ve not been given much game time we’ve signed in recent windows Edited by monkey (05 Feb 2024 8.43am) I want to see that version

Brighton targeted Munoz from the start. Lampty's pace caused him problems. He grew into the game but understandably this was a huge step up for him. I'm interested to see how he differs from Ward and Clyne and what he can offer the team going forward. Wharton got ambushed in midfield but the defence opened up far too easily for their third. I think they were still all over the place after conceding the second goal. I thought he showed glimpses of his talent in very difficult circumstances. Definitely much more to come from him.

Munoz looked to be very much the player I thought he was and for context, I did not expect him to be a young Dani Alves, but he displayed far more than we've seen at RB (bar AWB) in the last 15 years. Wharton looked better than I thought he would be. Bought a few days earlier, very very young, stepping up a league. Looked composed on the ball and sprayed it about with skill and far more positivity than again, many others I've seen in that position. Both look to be the best kind of signings we could hope for, just under the worst possible manager. Edited by Nicholas91 (05 Feb 2024 12.17pm)
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I always brace (mostly on here) to be massively shot down and/or hear a completely opposing view, which I do welcome albeit resentfully sometimes . Seems as though he recognises what I said to be reflective of the situation though!

People outside Palace keep talking about whether Roy goes now or in the summer as if he might stay when he has already publicly stated this is his last season at the club. Also, if 90+ percent of the fanbase think Roy should go how much more untenable can it get? Literally the only reason for Roy staying at the moment is if no-one else will take the job.
