A perfect storm of injuries is brewing because it may not be wise to bring them back as quickly as 2 and 1 month respectively anyway. Olise could be out for the season. I would say the latest injury news now puts us as one of the favourites to go down. FFP irregularity points deductions for Forest and additional ones for Everton could be our saviour. Lip readers have said that Olise said something along the lines of, “I’ve f..ked my hamstring as he walked off. It’s not great news.

Those blaming the manager don’t understand how things work these days. It’s the medical team that decide whether anyone is fit to play, and for how long. The manager then has to decide how to use those he has available. He isn’t a doctor. He is a coach. If finger pointing is appropriate it’s at whoever is releasing players before they are ready.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Olise could just have easily done his hamstring in training the next day even if he was not brought on against Brighton. Didint olise first get his injury in training with the French under 21s? Or a friendly? Didint Eze do his Achilles in training also and was out for a season? I think they are both injury prone and maybe that's why they are still with us.

Equally culpable. Hodgson should never have brought him on given the game was effectively over

A lot of people seem to be resigned to the fact that both players will go in the summer. I dont see it . When both are playing they are truly devastating, but they have both signed long term contracts last year, and both would command large fees 60-80 million each has been mentioned. What team would make that investment based on their fitness levels this year , nobody i believe. My view is that they would need to prove their fitness most probably at the start of next season and if they were ok more likely to go in January next year. What would be interesting would be if we were relegated and we could witness them both tearing championship sides apart along with a returning Dacoure. If we were to be relegated we would more be likely to lose Guehi and Anderson along with Ayew,Matetta, Eduard and other dead wood in the squad. But August to January next season could be much more refreshing under a new manager

‘I was told he couldn't start the game, everyone was quite comfortable with that," Hodgson said after the game. ‘But they told me, and he told me, he was fine to be on the bench and to play in the second half. ‘Unfortunately I don't have a crystal ball and I wasn't to know that would lead to a recurrence of his injury.’ 1) If he can't start the game, then he isn't 100%. 2) This is a player who has already had three (one in rehab, one vs Brentford, one vs Sheff Utd) setbacks from this injury. He had to come off with a tweak only 4 days beforehand. 3) Most importantly: We're 3-0 down in a game that's already lost. You don't have to be a doctor to know any of that. It's basic risk and reward. The risk far outweighed any possible reward. The medical department have massive questions to answer this year - don't get me wrong - but every one of us clowns on here was saying don't bring him on.

What is clear is that we can’t rely on Olise and Eze for the rest of the season. The great Liverpool manager used to ignore injured players around the training ground.

Olise and the Medical department are jointly responsible. BUT, 3-0 down, (or 0-3 up for that matter) doesn't need him taking a risk. Regardless of what he thinks the fans want etc. Is the guy stupid? Olise's fitness is linked to us scoring goals, winning games and Roy keeping his job. Even from a selfish standpoint, playing him is stupid

We don't have Olise now and we have no real wingers as such. Even Rak-Sakyi is injured. In that case, I am expecting (in fact I'm basically demanding) that we change formation. There is no point to our three up front with two inside forwards, without any actual inside forwards. We simply have to to a different tactic. In my opinion, narrow and direct. But there are alternatives.
