I don't think Dougie is a particularly good DOF - if I tell the truth he was woeful to begin with.
However, I noticed our signings becoming more astute over the last couple of years. I presume Dougie has learner the hard way with our massive over paying for average players. We always, however, have a lot of dead wood on high wages. I believe contracts are also within the remit of DOF.
If I were to think of Dougie's best role - surely it would be scout in Ireland and Scotland. I know it's nothing like DOF but frankly, I've never thought Dougie qualified for that role.

Name them then, i disagree and think off field he is the only decent asset the club has.

I can't remember all of the youngsters but for a start Banks, Reid, Plange, O'Brien, plus others we've had older like Rakip. Plus some awful loans. There are plenty more but I'm not bothered enough to go through the lists.
You and I obviously disagree - it happens. I've already given my reasons.

Seems a bizarrely high % to give away, but that's Palace for you

fair, but we still sold him for more money than we bought him for. That's the point I was getting at.

i would, and i wouldnt think he would be out of a job too long by his record, which isnt slightly better than average, its first class, with Eze, Olise, Andersen, Guehi, Doucoure and Johnstone alone, he has turned 81m into about 330m, not his fault the managers don't know how to use them, his mandate is to buy players cheap which can be sold on for profit.

I'm not saying he is terrible. But come on. he's not Dan Ashworth.

You cant remember them because their isnt 20, O`Brien we made a profit on, Plange is still here 850k, Reid came and went as a free, Banks has a lot of ability but just as he was looking decent got a terrible injury, there are no more, so in fact you got it completely wrong, not for the first time,

What, you can only take things literally and if fully listed? Come on now- you know there's been plenty of dross yourself if you think about it. I just gave some examples. I already said we can disagree but if you want to continue arguing fair enough.
There are fans who think Dougie's ok, there are fans that thinks he's great, there are fans that think he's rubbish - I'm not going for rubbish - just not that good. That's life.

Our best recruitment was with Vieira. Doogie was one of those players like Danny Graham and Chung Yong Lee who look great in the second tier but get found out in the top tier, and he tends to pick players like that (Rakip, Sorloth, Hughes) - his overall record is mixed (Meyer!!!), more good than bad but nothing special - I think he did a better job as manager here than Sporting Director - Hodgson hasn't always been immediately on board with some of Doofie's signings and his diffidence has generally been vindicated.

I think DF is a good judge of a player.

If you look at what could be classified as his failures, they were largely low risk. Players like Banks, Plange, O'Brien, Rakip, Jach and others - bought cheap and if they made it, great. If they didn't, well try to get a fee for them and move on.

I think critisising Dougie for signing Meyer is totally unfair. Meyer came with a decent reputation and was hailed as something of a marquee signing at the time. His failure to live up to the hype was not down to Freedman.

Saying he was better as a manager...did he not recruit Jedinak and Bolasie as manager ?

Freedman has had to work within a tight budget. He's also not had the luxury of any meaningful incoming funds as we have hung onto our assets.

Overall, I think he's doing a good job.

There seems to be a significant discord between Freedman, Hodgson and Parish. Maybe Im wrong, but on our lack of funds surely it is crucial that every penny spent is going to directly enhance the first team, not be used to fund some sort of future hope signings that we seem to be seeing more and more of who hardly ever get on the pitch.

Freedman was made DOF on august 21st 2017, Sakho was signed 6 days later, so since then we have signed:
Sorloth 14m, Kouyate 8m, Sako 0, Guaita 0, Meyer 0, McCarthy 3m, Ayew 2.2m, Cahill 0, Eze 16m, Butland 1.1m, Ferguson 0, Clyne 0, Guehi 19m, Andersen 17m, Edouard 15m, Mateta 10m, Olise 8m, Hughes 6m, Plange 1m, Doucoure 21m, Ebowei 0, Johnstone 0, Richards 10m, Franca 17m, Lerma 0, Hendersen 18m, Holding 1.2m

In my opinion, overall an excellent selection of signings, I personally hold Freeman in the highest esteem as a Player, Manager and DOF for Crystal Palace

All figures supplied by transfermk

I was clearly referring to the strikers he’s signed with him being an ex striker. It’s weird who he’s brought in, in regards to strikers he’s been a massive failure since promotion.

How many more duffers will he bring in in the position he should have the most knowledge of??
