Having to defend for pretty much the whole game, every game, must be galling, especially when we do have some very talented players going forward. Nothing wrong with him defensively but it is the manager who choose to persist with 2-3 defensive midfielders every game. We will lose many of our top talents if these negative tactics continue. It really doesn't take much of a genius to see what our shortcomings are. However, it all seems to be a bit too much for us to address. Why we haven't used our loan slots if skint is, frankly, baffling. What have we got? Some kind of anti-loan edict because we didn't get Gallagher? Patently ridiculous.

We didn’t! Newcastle can’t afford to spend £60m on a player cos of FFP and need to sell someone big this summer before they can buy (hence why they only have 3 fit midfielders and yet can’t afford to just take Phillips on loan).

There was never any chance of them bidding this for Anderson last summer or this coming one!

I do rate Anderson though.

In other news the decent players will wait and see who is to be the next manager, and if, and that's a big if, there is any overall strategic plan regarding that elusive upper half finish. If not then expect a few to realise that their prospects lie elsewhere. A shame, it only needed two or three signings in weak areas to have been able to genuinely compete.
