Nor do we even get close.

I cant even remember us getting a head on a corner

We don't really have anyone that's good with their head in the team do we . Probably the reason we concede easily from them as well . For all their good football our centre backs are poor in the air ,our forwards are worse than useless and the rest are dwarfed by most other sides .
As mentioned just crossing the ball into the box is a waste of time especially the other night V Everton who dont seem to have a player under 6'8''
Trying something a bit different couldn't be any worse .

I agree that we don't have the aerial prowess to exploit corners in the way we have done previously.
Nonetheless, it's inexcusable not to have varied our approach rather than chipping the ball into the opposition keeper's hands.
We could occasionally try the near post headed flick on, where you get in front of the defender and is difficult to anticipate;
or try a short corner routine which could vary the angle and trajectory of the cross.
I can only assume it's not something we spend a lot of time on, at least in an attacking sense.

I thought exactly the same the other week. If we are not going to win the floated balls into the 6 yard box, then why keep doing it. Mix it up!

If we win a corner and it's 0-0 we should kick it all the way back to the keeper. Respect the point.

This is why Scott Dann gets into my best Palace eleven.

What happened to near post corners? For a while they were all the rage and seemed to be very effective, for other teams anyway.
We'd be better off taking a short corner then hitting it hard and low into the area which might gain the odd own goal at least.

Your not wrong Teddy, but surely a PL team of 11 years standing can come up with something a bit more imaginative than hit hard into the box & hope for a deflection.

You'd think so wouldn't you DE? The deflection line was a bit tongue in cheek but since we seem incapable of winning anything in the air then keeping it low is at least an option - our strikers might be more like sloths than foxes in the box but they might at least have a chance.
Seeing the stats for goals scored from corners it makes you wonder why defenders bust a gut to put the ball out for a throw in.

Agree 100%, it’s all about not giving the ball away, so it’s easier to just pass it short / back and keep hold of it without looking remotely dangerous. Just get it up there and into the box and give the opponents something to deal with. Grrrr! And as for corners we might as well just pass them back. Nobody seems to attack a corner coming over and many just go straight into the keeper’s arms. Terrible coaching of set pieces which won’t improve until we get a new manager in my opinion. And as for Eza’s free kick just outside the box on Thursday. Less said about that the better :-(

So to summarise:

For free kicks, playing back and keeping possession isn't dangerous so we should pump them into the box.

For corners, pumping them into the box isn't effective so we should play back and keep possession.

Pity Roy and Ray didn't realise set pieces, both for and against were a problem before the Everton/arsenal match'es..

If Roy is in charge for the SU game i fully expect Chris Wilder to exploit our weakness defending set pieces. He must have watched the in depth analysis of our shortcomings on MoTD

In the league it's 0 goals from 88 corners.

Normally about 2-3% of corners end up in a goal, so we should have 2 or 3 goals by now.

So based on this and our inability to win headers, why do we even cross corners?
Same with free kicks. Either shoot or play it short in the vain hope someone may find a gap. Unlikely. Crikey. So depressing.
