I disagree. Surely a wise investor looks for potential and not the finished article as the finished article has no room for improvement. It’s all about value for money and Palace would be relatively cheap to buy with potentially a big upside. It would not surprise me if we have already had numerous approaches by wealthy consortia and individuals that have been turned away by Parish because they wouldn’t leave him in charge. I don’t believe he wants to let go of the reins. If that was the case then why have we not heard about this? Serious potential owners are not shy about telling fans what a great job they will do. Mike Ashley faced multiple bids over the years which he rejected but were public knowledge. So I am not convinced that rich owners are being turned down.

I don’t believe he wants to let go of the reins. Not sure about the SP situation. At the end of the day he is a business man and I would have thought the right money talks. I am surprised nobody has made a proper offer for Palace. All the ingredients are there to create something big. The right person or consortium could pick up an established team for a lot less than one of the big clubs. From a business point of view I buy old houses renovate and create a new product worth more in a different market. That makes the most sense to me. It seems the best option for someone looking to get into the premier league too. Chelsea and City weren’t that big a couple of decades ago now nobody can think of them as anything other than a big club.

It is obvious, we dont have enough MONEY, Parish, Textor no MONEY, Harris, Blitzer have MONEY but dont want to spend it, we cant attract a manager with a proven record, because we havent enough MONEY, dont forget Favre, Lampard and Nino turned us down before 4th choice Vieira, because we dont have enough MONEY, Roy is manager because their is nobody else, and sadly he is not the manager he was, so it is all, like everything about MONEY
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

A few years ago we had the oldest squad in the PL. The club have addressed that. I would say the club is now in another transitional phase. Up until Vieira's appointment a lot of what the club did seemed to be short-termism, but with the investment in young players and the academy that is seemingly the direction the club have chosen to take. The problem with this strategy is it might not deliver short-term results, especially when you appoint a manager with an aversion to using young players. In the long-term it could be hugely beneficial to the club if they can start producing either first-team players or players who can be sold to other clubs. Brighton had a plan, stuck to it and now it is paying dividends. Other clubs like Everton came unstuck for short-termism. As fans of course we always want immediate results and without a real insight as to the club's long-term strategy that won't change, but I don't see us ever being a club where we'll progress through the arrival of a wealthy benefactor and I'm ok with that. That's my tuppence anyway.

No, I’m not convinced either, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it were the case. I would say however that not all investors air their negotiations in public as that is a tactic more commonly used when they are trying to apply pressure and seek to influence people in the wider domain, such as the fans. No point in trying to do that if your negotiations don’t get past stage 1. I still think Palace are a perfect project for many of the reasons mentioned by others already.

Lack of finance seems an obvious starting point, weak scouting another, but I'd like to concentrate on lack of forward planning, and offer an obvious example that illustrates how we wing it from day to day not thinking about what the future holds. Edited by southnorwoodhill (29 Dec 2023 9.49am)

Yup we don't really know it's just a supposition on my part. I do think that the main block to selling is not Parish but the Stadium. Right now this is an unknown risk. It may come in on time and on budget but as HS2 tells us estimates can be wrong. Once the stadium, is complete any potential buyer will have a much clearer idea of what debt we are carrying and what revenues the new build will bring in.

That's my tuppence anyway. Good take on things in general. Parish seems to do things in ‘ cycles ‘ The re-appointment of Hodgson indicated to me that this was going to be a fallow season with survival once again the only realistic target. In other words the club is playing for time. I’ve said it before, but the talk of a push to a top ten finish this season was based upon what exactly given the strength in depth of the squad ? To me that is short termism, and it’s been derailed by events such as Zaha’s 11th hour departure and the number of injuries we have had. My expectation was/is that at the end of the season the club will have identified and appointed a manager that can take the club forward over the next 3-4 years. And that manager will receive enough financial backing to enable that to happen in tandem with ongoing development of players from the Academy. However, in our current predicament, Parish may not have the time he was hoping for in terms of the next manager. Defeat and even a draw tomorrow would leave Hodgson on the brink. And then it’s possible Parish will have to appoint someone that’s chief attraction is their immediate availability. If ever a season has been wasted, it’s this one.

Not sure, it's weird. According to Steve Parish we have enormous potential and vast catchment area of talent which, if utilised properly, could be an advantage over every other club in the league. Yet when we complain that the club is stagnating and that we're not trusting any of our youngsters, we get told that we are entitled and should be grateful for where we are because in 1960 we were in the fourth division. Almost like the narrative changes depending on the public mood.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

The degree of progress depends upon what period of time you are measuring . This is the conundrum. There was optimism about a push for the top 10 season, but then you examine the detail.

I think progress is harder than it looks when you have among the lowest free cash flows in the division. However, I also believe that John Textor's involvement has precipitated some kind of decision making/ investment stasis at the heart of the club.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

Edited by southnorwoodhill (29 Dec 2023 9.49am) I think deep down this sums up my gut instinct on the matter. We're always acting like it's a bit of a shock we're still here so everything seems to be from game to game - lurching from one injury crisis to another.
