It was unnecessary. His replacement at Man U was four or five mil. De Gea was (maybe still is) available on a free. Who's better De Gea, Onana or Henderson? I know what my answer would be.

It could very well be Henderson. If not now, then in the next wee while. De Gea is past it and always has a clanger in him. And Onana isn't exactly living up to the hype....

I really don't buy in to all this negative Freedman doesn't know what he's doing rubbish. We've literally landed four of the most promising players in the league in Guehi, Doucoure, Olise and Eze, for a total less than one of them would collect alone right now.
Then there's the other solid additions of Andersen/Hughes/Lerma/Johnstone.

Sure, the jury's still out on Franca. But the fact he was coveted by other clubs bigger than us says something.

Henderson, I admit, was a weird one. But no club gets it right every time. Look at how much money has been wasted by other big clubs. They can sort of afford to waste it. We cannot.

I think Freedman is doing a stellar job.

Couldn't agree more. Of course they'll be duds along the way but in the main we've secured some great deals over the last few years. The only blot in his copy book atm is not finding us another RB. It's been a clear need for a long time now and Ferguson with all the optimism in the world just won't be it.

Stellar Job eh Freedman ???

Sorloth, Jach, Ahamada, Batshuayi, Wickham, Ferguson,

Rakip, Meyer ???

New contracts for Ward, Clyne, Ferguson and Tomkins !!

All that money on Henderson who doesn't strengthen the starting XI when a four year old could tell him we need a goalscorer and urgently a new (right) back.

Way to go Dougie !!

Sigh. All you've done is point out the ones that haven't gone so well, while completely disregarding my point about the ones that have been outstanding buys. And even then, I'm not sure you're being entirely fair.

Sorloth - a Norwegian international who's now scoring freely for Villareal in La Liga. There's clearer a decent player there. Not Dougie's fault he didn't make the most of his time here.

Jach - yep, fair. A dud, by all accounts.

Ahamada - way too early to make a call either way.

Batshuayi - again, a Belgium international who played for Chelsea, brought in on loan to help our strike force. Scored 8 in about 30 games. Not great. But hardly a dud on loan.

Wickham - a torrid time with injuries. But everytime he pulled on the red and blue, he impressed. Hard to blame Dougie for injuries.

Fergusson - see above.

Rakip - can't remember much, to be honest.

Meyer - fair enough, a dud. But remember how excited everyone was when we signed him? Seemed to have all the goods...but just never displayed them.

Ward & Clyne - valuable squad members. An extra year extension was the right call for both.

Tompkins - been a massive player for us in the past. Hardly a dud. Agree, probably past his best and should be moved on after this season.

Henderson - agree, it's a weird one. But could prove to be a masterstroke. Who knows. Too early to tell.

And you act like Dougie is unaware of our need for a stronger right back and striker. As if he is going to wake up one morning and say, "you know what, Ward is getting on a bit these days, maybe I should consider RB cover." Behave. Just because we need something, doesn't mean it's easy to get it done.

Behave yourself !!

The deficiencies at centre forward and right back haven't just happened recently !!
Also, if there was money to overspend on a goalkeeper there was money to use for a right back or a forward.

But not necessarily ones that fit the profile of what we need.

Look, ultimately I don't know the ins and outs. Neither do you. But I fail to believe that nobodies like us are sitting here on our keyboard thinking of things that Dougie himself hasn't thought of yet. There's no way we have identified the need for a striker that scores, while Dougie's sitting there going...we're scoring for fun.

£30m transfer fees between Edouard and Mateta alone, another £40m on a sicknote keeper and a Brazilian teenager who may or may not come good in the future. £70m of poorly judged scouting and investment. Chuck in Ahamada for another £10m and that's £80m. Maybe he'll come good, at the moment he's just making up the numbers, as is bit-part Hughes.
In the meantime we need genuine contenders for first team places. The last round of transfer deals we spent approaching £50m, if additional fees are included, on non-essential cover, or non guaranteed starters for the future.
What we need desperately right in the here and now is replacement / cover for both full back positions. The £50m wasted could have been better used to fix the full back issue, and I dare say we would then have had a near full set decent first 11.

Johnstone, RB, Andersen, Guehi, LB, Doucoure, Lerma, Olise, Eze, Ayew

Just the one forward genuine starter to find. £30m on the current two chumps, ha ha...

Henderson will eventually bring a LOT of money into the club,a fine investment.

How do you work that one out? He's certainly taken a lot out.

What none of us know is the detail.

How much did we really pay for the signings?

What salaries are they really on? ( I cannot believe Henderson is even on £50k/wk, but £100k/wk beggars belief.)

How were any transfer fees spread over what period?

Is there anywhere all this has to be publicly posted? If not we are all in the dark.

The £40 m spent on Henderson and Franca is most bizarre. It’s almost as if one the directors said I want these 2 players and I’m going to sign them. Plenty of capable no 2 keepers out there for not much money…£5 m would have been adequate….and someone not injury prone.

Franca may be very good in 5 years time but we don’t have that sort of money to splash out on future stars. We badly need a right back an understudy left back and somebody who can put the ball in the net now.

40m is nothing in football world today and if 20m is too much this shows again the club is not being run correctly.

Franca could end up being very good business I don't see us making a loss on the deal but the thing about it I am not happy about is what is the point bringing him here to not even be used.

If we want to develop he needs to play meaning it would have made more sense to loan back or find another club to take him on loan.

I look at transfers other clubs had done with the likes of Ward Prowse costing only 30m he would have been great player.

The majors issues are we have for multi years needed replacements for important areas and they resign old timers again.

Left back
Right back
left winger

those 3 are a must and we got 0

People go on about strikers which is hardly player to find plus you could have best striker in world without service or playing to strengths they wont do much.
