With Johnstone just signing a 4 year contract extension it makes the Henderson transfer just baffling , the reasons given at the time were that Johnstone was unsettled but that now looks not to be the case and we have wasted 20 million on filling a space that is not needed to be filled

Doesn't it just. What a mess

If he’s fit it’s good to have a quality back up keeper. But b expensive way of doing it.

Mateta + Oduarde + Henderson = £46m

Is that really the best we could do with that money?

Plus £5m for the Arsenal fellow who will never get a game. What does it say about the academy when some Arsenal reject is brought in for £5m?

We only paid £1m for Holding. There may be some add-ons worth £2m which at his current rate of playing won't materialize.

I think that Holding was actually an astute bit of business as he'll be a useful back-up when Guehi leaves and Richards steps in, meaning we won't have to go out and panic buy a Guehi replacement or CB back-up. He's just turned 28 so has a few years left. and at £1m...a no-brainer IMO

Agreed, and of course Henderson's wages of c£100k a week makes him the highest paid player at the club.

I think SJ had a release clause which clearly was a concern, however, the new contract has, i assume, resolved this either by getting rid of it or increasing it.

He has also no doubt got a decent pay rise. So that's a lot of money to be spending on the goalkeeper slot - maybe £170k a week in total?

Hopefully Holding improves because when he has played he looked awful. I didn't think he was too bad for Arsenal but they seemed to know something we didn't.

Jordan Ayew is a player with a terrific workrate and perhaps deserves a top club.

signed one just before the start of the season,he knows he should have played for a higher club, terrific work rate.

Yeah I think you’re pushing it a bit there, I think the fact that the only thing you can big him up about is his work rate is exactly why he’s playing for us and not a big club

Very few in a Palace shirt are cleverer players. If he scored more goals as some seem to think of as the only measure of a good player the sky would be the limit for him.
There is not much he doesn’t do for this side, even knocks in a few goals after sorting out little problems all over the pitch..

It is for someone who plays up front!! Yes he works hard so you can’t dislike him, but giving your all for the shirt is a basic requirement, we need more quality from him in front of goal where it counts

Indeed, especially as Utd replaced him with a c£7m keeper. All a bit silly really.

We are now at the point where our back up keeper is our highest earner and one of out biggest signings of all time.
