Why do we have such depressing "supporters". We have been in the Premier league over 10 years now. We are a good London based football club. We are a bigger clubs then most like to admit and also have more money then some fans make out. We don't need to sell and we are a club in a good enough position to hold on to our best players now. We will build a squad around the likes of Johnstone, Anderson, Guehi, Mitchell, Doucoure, Lerma, Olise, Eze, França and Rak-Saki. We are only a decent young right back and a couple of decent strikers away from being a top 6 side.

Blimey I’ve seen a heck of a lot worse than that, especially on Twitter, I try to avoid that place now because it’s so toxic, some seem to hate their own club more than Brighton

Oh, so that's alright then!

But I do agree (sorry Willo, I mean concur) with the general point you're making.

If you've read any of my other posts you would see that despite my nom-de-plume, I'm generally more optimistic than pessimistic. In this case, I'm trying to be realistic, recognising that our better players will want to move to bigger clubs so as to win things if the opportunity comes.

Eze's contract expires the summer after next; he's 25 and unless he signs a new contract will be off this summer or even in January as we'll want to get a decent fee for him rather than let his contract run out and let him go for free. As for Olise, he probably has a release clause in his contract and if the right offer cones in for him (as he sees it) he'll be off and we won't be able to stop him.

As for the issue of what happens to the transfer fees, I will be pleasantly surprised if all of the money received is allocated for bringing in new players. Whilst funds were purportedly ring-fenced for the new stand, that was when the cost was less than £100m. Whether the owners are willing to provide loans for the increased costs remains to be seen.

Against the Spuds Ayew left Eddie central Jes right with Franca in Ebs role but we all know that wont happen. Roy just will not take the game to the bigger clubs and gives them the initiative from minute one. He just seems petrified of them and its so bloody annoying

An interesting point, but this could have been argued for any of the 10 seasons past - "if only we had" etc. Fact is we didn't and look unlikely to in the near future.
I note with interest that our average finish for those 10 seasons has been 12th place, and we currently sit in 11th, so pretty much par for the course.
I welcome Roy's stated ambition for a top 10 finish this season, but to break into the top six would require either a significant spend or a few players from the U21 side suddenly breaking through.

Franca looked exciting.
To be honest, it was actually a favourable circumstance for him to make his debut given that there was no pressure and we had already lost the game. It meant Roy gave him twenty minutes to express himself rather than five when we are defending a lead.

Agreed with the comments on Mateta. Can be a decent impact sub as proven against Wolves but hasn't got the legs to start. JRS played well against Forest (and Newcastle) and is learning to track back well. Needs to start with Eduoard through the middle. Maybe Ayew on the left.

I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry.

Really hope França keeps shooting. That 30 yard effort which by the way was closer than it looked is what we lack. It's like they say fishing, you can't catch fish if your hook is not in the water. So we need to shoot more often and do more trickery. Just like Olise does.
Once we return to full strength, which could be a while yet, who knows where we could go.
If we could only top up with a couple of wing backs and a decent striker then we will be set.

I’m definitely excited by him. I can’t wait to see a full strength side now. On paper we should be smashing it once we’re all fit. Happy days to come I hope

I'm always impressed by southnorwoodhill's posts.

Even if we had money, I'm not sure we'd spend it. There's much to be said for good housekeeping, but the Premiership is littered with good players we might have signed but didn't. Serial underachievers for many years, Newcastle has now joined the ranks of those teams who can tonk you 4-0 or worse. Never has the Premiership been less of a level playing field. Our manifest destiny is to finish the season as far up the bottom half as we can. Just when it seems that with 'two or three more signings' etc., etc., we'll find that we are trying to hang on to those players like Andersen, Guehi, Olise, Eze who will inevitably be poached. So then we need seven players again!
After the Spurs game, which could easily be another 4-0, twelve points from ten games will be about right, given who we've played. Another seven wins should keep us up because in achieving that, we'll have drawn five more games along the way, =38 points.

This time next season we'll be discussing whether we have enough to beat Leicester and Leeds.

Franca looks to have huge potential, and I'm sure he'll make a very useful contribution to our games. But I regret us not being able to take Ollie Watkins from Brentford. He's been terrific for Villa this season. Big fan of his.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Given that Franca will be a guaranteed starter once settled in, what will the first 11 line up look like? I can't imagine dross like Mateta having any future at the club, so that is one space freed up.

Mate our first XI when/if all fit will be;

Johnstone
Ferguson - but will we ever see him fit..?? If not I’d go Richards.
Andersen
Guehi
Mitchell
Decoure
Lerma
Eze
Franca
Olise
Edouard

Get this XI on the pitch and we’ll have a clearer picture of where we are and what is realistically achievable this season.

To me on paper looks awesome - but time will tell..!!
