Its their comments or lack of them that irritate, nothing to do about when we're on. Like last weekend when they said that we were robbed by the referee?

MOTD is a bit like Football Focus, a tired format that not many watch these days, but the Beeb keeps it running for what seems like sentimental reasons. I don't even record it now. If Palace win I get it on iPlayer just to hear what the'pundits' have to say so I'm really not bothered where it fits in the schedule. No doubt we'll be higher up the schedule when we give ManU a thrashing. Football Focus has been haemorrhaging viewers for a few years now, but since Alex Scott started hosting the programme, numbers have fallen dramatically.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

The likes of Football Focus and MoTD, if not on their way out, may well be a far less prominent feature in anybody's life going forward. We can probably all bemoan elements of them or anything externally however the availability and vast array of media these days is probably superseding any intentions current of younger audiences may have of watching these programmes. Most highlights can be found on YouTube very shortly after matches, courtesy of Sky Sports, and then in the evening you have everything from Netflix to Virtual Reality to enjoy. Times, cultures and practices move on unfortunately, watching MoTD in the evening or FF in the morning may well fall into the cadre of things going from commonplace to almost niche.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I rarely watch football focus anymore but used to like it when we were lower down. I do watch Match of the Day the odd time but the current presenters are turning me off. However, they're both better than RefWatch which just says the officials were right every time.

TBF Lineker has been doing it so long he may well be part of it's downfall and therefore beyond saving it.

Odd thing for a TV and Radio company to say, most will sack a presenter when the rating drop.

Dan Walker previously before Alex Scott and I didn't watch him either....probably not her fault but a format that no longer fits viewers and BBC slow to recognise a dying duck. Just like Sky Sports "Soccer AM" ...they also held on too long Originally posted by Badger11

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

S'funny how MoTD is becoming less and less popular, yet Lineker remains on his lofty salary. As Melvyn Bragg pointed out in the week, whatever it is he presents for the BBC has roughly the same audience as MoTD yet he (Bragg) is paid a small fraction of what Lineker gets. Wrong! This should be in the politics section! Started off as MOTD running oder then turns it to defund the BBC, yawn. For what it's worth I like both the BBC and Gary Lineker, in my mind he is far superior to many on TNT and Sky, people like Owen Redknapp, Savage etc.

I know you hate my pedantry old chap, even though you don't mind resorting to it yourself on occasion, and I'm sorry to single you out when so many people make the same mistake...but something on the telly is a programme not a program. That said, what you say in your post is exactly what I do. It was, of course, so much easier in the days of VHS, because with Palace inevitably being last in the running order, you merely had to rewind the tape for a few moments. Now you have to fast-forward through almost the entire broadcast. Watch it on iplayer and you can fast forward
