After the last international Tournament Southgate was a bit on the fence about whether he wanted to continue in the job or not, presumably unless we win the Euros this time (with the amount of media / public scrutiny & speculation) he will probably call it a day afterwards -

Potter would be an obvious choice to replace him but I think he will be employed before then - I can see Potter at Fulham by Christmas.

No one has confirmed that he is interested in Southgate. It’s all speculation.

I think Howe will be next England manager after being sacked by Newcastle at some point this season.

Think Potter would be great. De Zerbi getting enormous amounts of credit this reason, and rightly so, but he's building on a lot of the work that Potter put in.

Southgate's biggest skill is squad harmony and togetherness rather than tactical acumen. Reckon he'd want a bigger job anyway.

He is too young, I know he is a sweaty but it will be Moyes, the England job is normally a pre - retirement gig.Except for Roy the touchline biffo king.

I think some of you lot are right about Southgate. He is at a lot of our games with Parish so it wouldnt be a surprise.

I still think the Greek Pavaroti owner at Forest who is as mad as a box of frogs will sack Cooper at some point so I would go for him next Summer.

Why are you getting excited over somebody’s speculation that Southgate could be the next Palace manager ? Now that is stupid

Potter would prefer a larger squad. I don't see him working with us. Some half decent results have glossed over where our squad is. It's small with little or no cover.
It looked like (and I don't know what happened) that several managers came to us for an interview but we eventually gave Roy a short term contract. Why they didn't come, I don't know - were none good enough, or were they suspicious about our budgets/plans/ownership? Who knows really.

All good points.

Is it worth suggesting that Roy is seen by the board as the 'stop-gap' to keep disaster at bay until such time they line up a manager to oversee and accompany further investment in the squad?

I recognise that may be wishful thinking but given Roy's age surely it would be beneficial to lure a manager such as those outlined in this thread if we were to say 'Look, we're alright as is but we'll also give you a half-decent, Vieira-esque war chest to mould the squad to your liking for going forward'?

No real evidence or insight driving my thinking there but I wouldn't consider it too outlandish a suggestion. PV somewhat failed so perhaps proper investment must be seen to accompany the right man for the job?

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

There was a rumour that Cooper was interviewed twice, offered the job, and then turned us down. Don't exactly know why but the rumour was ambition (transfer funds). I heard, rumour again, that Potter said he wasn't currently interested when approached and didn't even make an interview. It would explain the delay in announcing Roy.

I'd be highly shocked if transfer budget was not a big factor at play were both these to be true. I think Cooper would be foolish to leave Forest just yet and Potter, rivalries aside, may have greater ambition than Selhurst Park but available funds could still be a huge factor.

I am guessing that there is money there to be spent however the board (Parish) may be slightly reluctant given the failed venture with PV. We may see the same approach again however hopefully a better informed one this time.
