The day were owned by foreign billionaires, have foreigners turning up to our ground with selfie sticks where regular fans can’t get a ticket and spend billions on players to sometimes go backwards will be a very, very sad one for me.

I’m quite happy being owned by a fan,

Well Parish is a fan but only owns 10%. Harris and Blitzer are the billionaires and they would rather own a bigger club and Textor is at odds with the other three and has interests in other clubs

Comfortable survival playing attractive football. I’d take W15, D3, L18 over W12, D12, L14 all day long. I don’t reckon Roy would though.

Agreed and preferrably with the top scalps being taken at SP so we can all enjoy the experience.

So I have a been a Palace fan since 1969. We all know our history with its Highs and its lows. After 11 seasons in the prem what do you consider to be good season ?

For me its staying in the prem and cup run. As staying in the prem for our Club, with a ground size as small as it, is we are fighting above our weight.

But what about you, what's par for you?

Getting to the 40 points total quicker than the previous season.. that's steady progress.

The greed is good nature of the set up will lead to a breakaway super league / greater split of tv revenues to the bigger clubs / ongoing hoovering up of talent from ‘lesser clubs.’
The wealthy owners have only just begun in their Machiavellian manoeuvres.
The essence of sport is competition and once you take that away what are you left with ?
The domination by Real Madrid and Barcelona has killed the game in Spain and it’s not that much better in Germany.
Total dominance is not necessarily attractive to fans of the dominant clubs either.
They’re not happy with a 1-0 v e.g Luton, demanding a 5-0.

I remember when we lost the FA Cup Final to United. Our fans were cheering the team and singing their hearts out whilst their fans boo'd them going up the stairs as just an FA Cup "wasn't good enough"

I take your point, however for Palace in the top flight, the situation has hardly changed since 1969. It's always been about survival as most other clubs have always been bigger than we are. The numbers are just bigger now than they used to be, and with new sources of cash (most recently Saudi Arabia) they will keep getting bigger. Who remembers being shocked by David Mills signing for West Bromwich Albion in 1976 for half a million; the first English footballer to command such a fee? I remember at the time saying "what madness"..."this can't go on" etc! (In fact who even remembers David Mills? Other than me, obvs.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Or to put that another way:

In 1990 Man Utd beat Crystal Palace in the FA Cup Final - an achievement significant enough for the manager to keep his job, having finished a disappointing 13th in the league.

In 2016 Man Utd beat Crystal Palace in the FA Cup Final - an achievement not significant enough for the manager to keep his job, despite having finished 5th in the league.

We did briefly threaten the top at one point in the Coppell years
when we finished third and would have been in the Champions League equivalent if English clubs weren't banned.
That team had Bright, Wright, Gray, Thomas,Salako and Martyn.
These days the greed is good league would never have allowed us to retain these players, chopping us off at the knees before we could threaten.
The inherent imbalance in the league is built in and will only get worse.
This is largely accepted by the fans (probably realistically).
Hence a good season is defined as and limited to 'staying up', 'a good cup run,'seeing some good football.'

Comfortably stay up, more wins at home than away, because I don’t do many always these days, hopefully win or draw the ones I do go to, bloody the nose of a couple of the big boys, which tend to do each season, and a cup run would be a bonus
