Seriously? 7 goals last season and 6 the season before is the only stat you need and it goes without saying, it’s no-where near good enough Unfortunately this is about the level we can afford. We're looking at Iheanacho who since 2015/16 has played at least 20 games a season and scored 8,4,3,1,5,12,4 & 5.

Not every striker is a Haaland or Kane, and in the Premier League he won't have nearly as many chances as he did in the past. But he flubs good opportunities when they arise and he lacks energy, either due to effort or fitness, in both attack and defense. When you watch his highlights with Celtic, he was quicker and more fluid than he is now. Let's hope Roy or his teammates can light a fire under him.

You know in Scrabble when you put all your letters back in the bag and pick another set out at random? Well, this is going to sound harsh but I feel like if we did that with our strikers and every other striker in the top 7 leagues, we'd be unlucky to get much worse. Mateta I have thought is bang average from the very start. Edouard so hit and miss. I actually thought he played alright on the left for us once, as he seems better running towards players and goal than receiving the ball with the goal and defenders behind him. Wouldn't mind keeping him as a possible option in both positions.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

I know goals are important. But for me, the mystical 20 gaol a season striker doesn't exist. At least not at our level. So what do I want. Someone who positivity impacts a game, make the defenders work hard, an chips in with some goals. Mitrovic would be a good example of this. Not technically gifted, or prolific, but gives his all and adds some value. Unfortunately Edouard is almost the opposite of this. 99% of his time on the pitch is invisible. I cant think or 1 positive thing he did last night. One run, one pressure, on hold up. Nothing.

This is true, sadly if there was a striker out there who would guarantee us 20 goals this season, we wouldn’t be able to afford him and he’d be going elsewhere!!

If he were to start scoring regularly it would prove what I have always said, namely we have a non-productive midfield since Cabaye and Bannon left. At the moment even Glen Murray would struggle. Doubt we would let him go unless there was a gold-plated replacement lined up. Maybe Sammy Szmodics ?

Very different player to Antonio who is a constant nuisance with his strength and speed. I don't think he'd do much better at Spam, but who knows. He needs to be in a team where he'll get lots of chances in the 18-yard box. He's a good finisher but he offers very little outside the 18 yard box. He'd probably thrive in a top team in Turkey or something. As it is though I can't see him leaving. More likely Roy will lean on the board to move JPM on and bring someone else in.
